School time photos. I don't know what the hell this is, but it's weird and interesting.

Eolake, you always amaze me with what you come up with. WOW, again. I found this "interesting" as I'm not sure if I like it or not. I think I need to go back for a closer look later to decide. But, I did enjoy looking at the images.

But, I do wonder what the girl in the 8th frame down (05// OFFAL WITH GIRLS ISTANBUL 2000) and the fourth image to the right is holding. Please say that it's not suppose to represent a part of the male anatomy.

No, the baby octopi are!

I think those kinds of things are included to get a visceral reaction. Like exhibiting dead pigs or sharks. Not my favorite kind of art.

This is a open heart surgery scar. It is a sign of a second chance at life.

Looks great.

Fucking hell, at her age!

(This is where larger pictures might have helped, I hadn't seen the scar.)
(And I wouldn't have known what it was either, but that's another story.)

This is a quote from the "artists statement" section.
"I worry about the transience of people and things in general, and try to reconstruct unclear and imperfect images of an idealized past."

I'm a little confused here and maybe you can help. "reconstruct unclear and imperfect images of an idealized past." Does this mean that he is saying, he is trying to make an image of the past, being ideal and he does this through "unclear and imperfect images"?

If you do this, don't you create an image that is unclear and therefore, it can not be an image of a true past (ideal or not), because you can't see it as it's unclear.

Boy I hope someone understands my wanderings on this one! Maybe I should go and get another cup of coffee.

On the open heart surgery scar. If the point of this picture is "It is a sign of a second chance at life." as Joe said, then all these pictures must have a statement or behind them. OK Eolake, what's the signifance of the "baby octopi" or whatever represents that male part?

You better ask the artist himself. But my guess is he's just trying to capture a feeling.

(Funny, I had the impression it was a woman. They are usually better at subtle kinky undercurrents than men.)

I was just speaking with my cousin (a female) and she has an interesting idea on this. Again I quote, "I worry about the transience of people and things in general, and try to reconstruct unclear and imperfect images of an idealized past."

She says, assume that you have a picture of your childhood as well as memories of your childhood. Your memories have created an ideal childhood (hopefully), but that picture can not portrait what you memories and feelings are. Therefore the picture image is unclear or imperfect.

How's that sound?

I think the artists statement and the meat etc are just to get on the brand wagon, you cant make a living out of art if you dont play along with the galleries and investors, but as far as the composition and lighting and so on go I like it a lot

Sukiho, I agree with you completely. From the artistic and photography side, they are very well done. It seems that I get a little philosophical (I hope that's spelled right) at times and get carried away.

Thanks for pulling me back in...

I am not sure what the artist was planning. But my wife had open heart surgery in her early 20's. The scar looks similar to this.

Glad for modern medicine.

I took the quoted artist statement to be saying that he tries to recall his past and create images of it but that memories are inherently "unclear and imperfect". I know for me that when I try to think of some past event I am always a bit unsure about it. We'd like to believe that we have perfect recall and maybe a few people do (how would I know). My guess is that being a non-native English speaker he may not have expressed this with quite the right grammar.

And regarding my memories I have often found that when I have an actual photo of something past it supplants any separate memories I would have had about it. I don't remember how I looked at certain ages except by a photo which seems to prove it. I find that kind of unsettling.
