*Our* air space, dammit

Ray wrote to me:

The press over here is making a fuss about the Russians 'Bear' bombers invading our air space, and being intercepted by our air force's CF-18 Hornets.
The thing nobody's mentioning is that both of these aircraft are between 26 and 30 years old. So our obsolete technology is chasing away theirs.
When a Russian official was quoted as saying that this whole thing is a farce, I think I understand what he meant.

Yes. I think that nations, being aggregate minds, show us what humans are really like. Meaning: children, egoic beyond belief and prone to hissy fits and paranoia.

From what I've read and seen on the news it's just the russians posturing because they want to be seen as a superpower and because they want to remind us Canucks (and seeing as how this was done specifically on the day that the U.S. President was visiting, also remind the Americans) that Russia is still a force to be reckoned with.
Due to the fact that there is a ongoing dispute about who owns the artic and its airspace (not to mention the oil beneath it) the russians will continue to enter our airspace and we will continue to have harsh words with their ambassadors.
And the russians maybe using outdated bombers and we may be sending up outdated aircraft, but we are part of both NATO and NORAD thus we do have some alies with very modern weapons to back us up.
Let's hope the need to never arises.

Obviously you know nothing about it, EOlake. Once again you show your ignorance. Being the lazy flake that you are, you can't be bothered to look into it.

The Russians did this just when the U.S. President was going to be there. Not exactly a coincidence.

The CF-18 may be old, but the U.S. airforce still uses them, and with updated eletronics are still excellent fighter jets. the U.S. only recently retired the F-14 Tomcat. It has a long run.
