Will cyber-communting finally take off?

How Working Remotely Changed My Life, article.

Back in the nineties, I would have thought that by now, over half of all office workers would be working from home, or at least remotely (might be from a nearby small office). But nooooo. I think it's mostly a matter of trust. But from what I hear, office workers in offices uses minimal time actually working anyway. And if you can't see if anybody is producing anything, what's the use?

Pixelstick

Here's another, but curiously similar, way of making pictures.

Alternative use for all the typewriters

The artist who makes pictures with a typewriter, BBC video.

It's been done before, but I think she is good at it, I like the pictures. (I wish they'd put in bigger versions outside the video.)
I find it a bit impressive that she does it "free hand" so to speak. She does not sketch up beforehand where everything goes.
Heh, one of her best machines, takes double-sized paper (A3), she got for about two Pounds!

Get Daria for a song

A decade old, “Daria” ran on MTV, but don’t hold that against it, it’s lightyears ahead. Funny, satiric, intelligent.

It only came out on DVD around 3 years ago, due to fan pressure.
I bought the whole box merely on merit of Amazon reviews. Haven’t regretted it, and I've watched it all two or three times.  If you like subtle and funny animation for adults, I recommend it.
It was cheap too, less than fifty bucks for a handful of seasons. Eight DVDs, including two movies which came after the series, but stayed in continuity.

… hokey smoke, it’s down to 22 bucks! Unbelievable.

Javier Perez art

[Thanks to Bert]

Javier Perez art.
I love the wimsicalness. It's surprisingly rare.
Children have it more often. But they usually don't have the experience or attention span to make real art projects.
Update: ... ooh, and what do I find:

"Creativity represents a miraculous coming together of the uninhibited energy of the child with its apparent opposite and enemy, the sense of order imposed on the disciplined adult intelligence." -- Norman Podhoretz

A vertical forest is growing in the middle of one of europe’s dirtiest cities

A vertical forest is growing in the middle of one of europe’s dirtiest cities, article.

The "forest" is on the outside of an apartment building, and it's almost done.

I'ts a bit risky, I think. It will take a lot of maintenance to stop the trees overgrowing their small boxes and turn the whold shebang into slum, cocooned in green monoliths (Duoliths?).
Sure, they are taking measure, but I've just seen a picture of a tree growing up through a boulder. Never underestimate the power of nature.
