Inspiration and Self

Inspiration may be a form of superconsciousness, or perhaps of subconsciousness - I wouldn't know. But I am sure it is the antithesis of self- consciousness.
-- Aaron Copland

Oooh, that's good.
To me, inspiration feels like leaving the little Self behind and going out into the great oneness. It takes courage, but there's no feeling like it.

Yes, exactly. And thats the core of "meditation" in any form, the juicy center of life.

(For many people, "meditation" has some heavy smell like holy bullshit or like running away from "real" life into some hallucination - how absurd! In fact it is the contrary. Just take another name for it.)

The attachment to ego (or little Self) and "The Whole" (however you may call it) cannot coexist.

The desire (as ancient as mankind) of melting and dissolving into The Whole is the starting point of every spiritual quest, of every love, and of every art.

I was sure, you know that.

Remember, children: after a lot of inspiration, don't forget to exhale. Safety first! 8-D
(sigh) Yes, Lil' Johnny, I *know* everybody has a safety valve, but deflating in public isn't polite.

"The desire (as ancient as mankind) of melting and dissolving into The Whole"
Being a man myself, I can testify: this is EXACTLY how I would describe the feeling, seconds before my last orgasm. Well, except maybe for the orthograph...

Yes, I know, I know. But I joke best about things and people that I love. Laughter is the one thing in life that I take the most seriously.

Bollocks. If that were true, you wouldn't exist. (Sounds suspiciously like ACIM, by the way!)

However, perhaps you meant our objective attention can not simultaneously be held on both. That I would agree on.

With some practice you can learn to focus your attention to other parts of you, i.e. other "little selfs" (or "lifetimes") of yours. And it is also possible to switch between those and your current objective awareness as often as you like.

Then, it is also quite possible to experience all of you and "the whole" simultaneously. We usually only get glimpses of it, as Pascal above testi(s)fies, but many people have had experiences of staying in that state for days or weeks.
