Overcooking

Mike J on overcooking photos (and vegetables).

He has other good articles on that site, including this one about viewing distances (from a print).
The demand for resolution does not increase proportionally with print size, for instance, because you tend to view larger prints from further away.

I remember when we got one of our first Powermacs, a Performa I believe. It had a TV tuner card in it. Anyway I was doing some work, and decided to see if having the TV in pop-up mode was distracting or fun. It was pretty good, but as soon as I went full screen, to 640 by 480, it was awful, it was blocky. Then I sat back on the couch on the other side of the room.

You guessed it, the Performa's built in 15" screen was as good as a 15" color portable TV. Sure, the TV had better apparent resolution at 2 ft, but at 10ft, who cared.
