Leningrad Cowboys & Red Army Choir

Also don't miss: Delilah.

And here I was afraid that the clash of cultures would mess up something.

Leningrad Cowboys, in fact, is not a Russian band, but Finnish. As the story goes, in 1992 on a tour bus one of the band members came up with the impossible and ridic idea of inviting the Red Army Choir as their backing singers!

And being the kind of crazy band that they are, as a fun exercise one of the band members actually contacted the choir. And much to the band's amazement they agreed!

A huge open air concert called Total Balalaika Show was then organised in the center of Helsinki with the Red Army men arriving by train.

It was quite a spectacular sight, 200 Red Army men in their uniforms singing western rock songs. Of course, the Red Army guys' own material, which they also did, was much better than the Cowboys' western rock covers. For example, here's another clip from the concert where they perform Volga Boatmen. Can you spot me in the audience?

I think they also performed in the Berlin performance of The Wall.
