Je Ne Sais Quoi

This is an old picture of mine, but I just stumbled over it, and decided that I like it. It's got some of that... I don't know what... that I'm looking for. Chaos and order intertwined.
I think it would work best printed really large.

Wowo! What a crystal clear photograph! Eolake, keep it up!!

I like it. I also like photos like these in color, but where the color is subtle, almost subliminal. I call them color monochromes.

'Tis beautiful.

A fractal-like quality that keeps the brain searching for hidden details. Can you see the face lurking from behind the dark tree?

My first thought that popped into my mind was...Andy Warhol

Very intriguing...

Wow, what a photo! I mean, really, to see something that rare and beautiful I'd have to actually look out my window every single day. Or, better yet, actually go outside!

Is it me, or is the trend of allways-negative anonymous comments over?
:-)

No, Pascal, don't worry, it's you.
But these days I'm too busy telling preschoolers that Santa doesn't exist.

I'm not sure, but I'm over them. :)

As in "Background Wallpaper", maybe?
It reminds me of a wintery view of the woods behind our property 70 years ago, when I was a kid. It's all been cut down long ago now, but this is a nice "stroll down memory lane".
Thank you, Eolake.

No you're not. You know you suck, but you like this crowd because they tell you what you want to hear. They're Smithers to your Mr. Burns. With all this sucking of each others dicks going on around here it's a wonder anyone has time for anything else.

Oh, and by the way, they may not have mentioned it in those two or three English classes you took, but what you've posted here is a photograph, not a picture. You sound like you're five years old.

Wow, someone is definitely having a bad day. Anyone knows of a nice and cozy hatred-cultivating group where anon could go feel at home?

As for the "picture vs. photograph" lesson, we now know how our anon friend would fare on the logic portion of an I.Q. test (True or False: "If all Zips are Zoodles, and all Zoodles are Zonkers, then all Zips are definitely Zonkers."). Wonder why this is not a surprise?

Could also be worth mentioning that, as far as I can tell, English is a second language to many regulars here. We all use this lowest common denominator out of pure convenience, and you should probably be grateful for that, for you most probably would be excluded otherwise.

Go sit on a cactus, you'll feel better right away.

"You sound like you're five years old."

Lol, I wonder if he gets the irony of this statement. Excellent PICTURE by the way.

Anonymous said...

Oh, come on, we use English here because it's superior to any of the languages the rest of you speak!

Alex said...

I refuse to use a subset of English just because of who else may be listening. They can always ask for clarification.

I like the bitmap image rendered on my screen from the "joint pictures expert group" file you shared.

Surely a photograph is chemicals excited by photons, and the resultant dye pigments. What we have here is clearly a bunch of excited polarizing crystals in a louvre filtering coloured dots of light.

I love photos of abstract texture. Why do so many people insist on people in their photos?

"I refuse to use a subset of English just because of who else may be listening."

Do I sound like I need help with this simplistic idiom? ;)

I certainly didn't imply that you should refrain from expressing yourself. In fact, I would much rather imply that many of us are restricting ourselves by limiting the conversation to English.

But no matter how I turn this, some will choose to perceive it as an attack, while it is definitely not so. Just imagine, for an instant, that this blog was in Frisian, or Swahili or Pigdin (a mixture of Chinese, Malay and English) if you prefer. Then we would all be on equal terms, and no one would think of criticizing another's syntax or grammar, or choice of words, for that matter.

Don't hate us just because you speak a shit language.

"Surely a photograph is chemicals excited by photons, and the resultant dye pigments."

To me, a photograph is any picture made by light, displayed by whatever means.
And a photo is a picture, like a man is a biped and a square is a rectangle.

"I love photos of abstract texture."

Me too.

Wrong. You sound like a hillbilly - "Lookit all da perdy pictures!" Fucking hick.

Good thing we have you to raise the tone here.

Wow, you really proved me wrong. What a witty response. Really put me in my place. I can see I was wrong about you. Your intellect is gigantic. You are a giant among men.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Thank you.

You're welcome. I managed to keep a straight face when I typed it, too! Shouldn't I get some kind of medal?

I should show you some photos I took up this big ice storm back in '98. It looked beautiful on the trees and stuff. Too bad it caused so much damage.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

I saw some outrageous photos of after an ice storm, I think it was from Switzerland. The ice was like six inches on everything. Good friggin grief.

"They're Smithers to your Mr. Burns."

WHAT?!?!? Eolake's friends are all (gasp!) GAY?
But... bu-bu-bu-but... what about all the looking at nekkid women, and stuff?
And what about the women? Are they ALSO gay man-lovers, like Smithers?

BTW, I seem to recall that a photograph IS a picture. One taken by a camera.
Not to be mistaken with a painting now, you hear me kids?

"Anyone knows of a nice and cozy hatred-cultivating group where anon could go feel at home?"

I'm sure there are lots of Mortal Kombat gay BDSM nazi fan groups out there. Does saintmilosevic.blogspot.com exist? Or we_love_binladen's_anus.com?

Whoops! Now I'm flaming the flamers. How silly.
But what fun! More than a snowball fight in an ice-cream factory!

"Go sit on a cactus, you'll feel better right away."

Owh, the humanity!
What did them poor hapless cacti ever do to you?

"Lol, I wonder if he gets the irony of this statement."

Naah. He's too generous not to share... until there's nothing left for HIM to get. (Unless "he" is a "she"?...)

Bert offered...
"But no matter how I turn this, some will choose to perceive it as an attack"

Hey, I'm always up for a nice, friendly, manly fist fight when the Thing's out! What do you say: you, me, the back alley, in ten minutes? ;-)
If Hollywood's right (and they always are), in twenty minutes from now we should be friends for life.
Or, we could do this the wimpy way, just shake hands and smile. (Bo-ring!)

"Then we would all be on equal terms, and no one would think of criticizing another's syntax or grammar, or choice of words, for that matter."

Yes, that's the beauty of Pidgin. :-)

Eolake etymologized...
"To me, a photograph is any picture made by light"

Your Greek is good, yhis is precisely what the word is meant to mean. And what it's niced to nice, for that matter.

If you're looking for a shit language, Arabic has some of the best-sounding swear words in the known universe. Even the Skrulls envy Earth that wonderfully expressive language.

"Good thing we have you to raise the tone here."

You forgot the litterary level! ;-)

Your dedication moved me, true believer. I talked to Stan Lee, your no-prize is in the mail.

The fact that this image, picture, photograph, datafile, whatsoever, has attracted 28 comments so far, including this one of mine, makes me go a big rubbery one.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Me too. I have to go change my pants.

You never know what will do it.

I prefer to go sleek oily ones, myself. Easier to clean with a good "flame on".

Uh... too much information, perhaps?

Anonymous said...

Most photographers call them photographs because "pictures" doesn't have the pretentiousness and pomposity that they require.

Eolake Stobblehouse said...

Hehe.

Amusingly, Mike Johnston gets up in arms about people calling them "images". Apparently he thinks it is both pretentious and wimpy at the same time, or something. :)

It's odd that a right winger for the St. Louis Blues would care so much about photography. He must have hidden depths. He is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. :)
