Bishop's castle

One-man built.
Update: more pics.
I think one makes arches by first making them in wood, then laying the stones on top of them.
That ceiling is amazing. The videos I saw were very poorly done, that they didn't show that.

He's a bit of a shrinking violet, though.

Yeah.

I think though, that if he doesn't learn to ease up on the ire, he won't grow very old.

How do you know he is ireful apart from during his 15 mins of fame when this video was shot?

I, too, would speak for liberty if people entered my premises with the intention of filming me for a television broadcast.

Spending 30 years working on a single art project I'm sure you will end up at peace with yourself if you weren't that already. Physical hard work is one of the best forms of meditation there is.

Exactly, Eolake! He's had a bit of time to *stew* about ALL of that! "Look out for the rain of BOULDERS coming @ you, below...if you're government!!" Perhaps Kent will be up there helping him if *the government* shows up?! lol! ;-)

More photos here.

I was going to remind the American readers that in many countries, especially here in Europe, it would be illegal to build such a construction on your own land. Endless regulations would be exercised to stop you from even trying. The point being that America still has many freedoms left which its citizens should be proud to defend.

But from reading the above website, apparently the goverment has tried to exercise the zoning laws to prevent this guy from continuing the construction of his masterpiece. Looking at it from this perspective, the guy certainly has every reason to be ireful.

This site has nice photos. Especially of the ceiling. How on earth did he create that stone arching?

Seriously, ttl?? This man lives in a country that does happen to have "regulations". Yes...they are called zoning laws and homeowner's associations...as well as...uh...building permits!

Zoning laws & Homeowner's Associations establish how high things can be built (it might be nice to know that, if anyone else builds near you, you would still be able to see that park that you were able to see, when you moved in, yes?); whether a person can even erect a ham radio antenna on their property (same issue. Imagine an entire neighborhood of ham radio antennae! lol!); what color the house is (black, anyone?! How about bright PURPLE!!); what you can and can't have in that particular zone (animals ("what do you mean you don't want my cows coming over and dumping all over your manicured lawn?!"); is it a residential area; business??). Of course there are reasons for all of the laws...of which, I believe, they are just trying to *maintain order* of various things: sanitation, for one, and eccentricity popping up all around your own home.

And...being a citizen of this country, he should know a little about building permits. In America, building permits are needed to even build a gardening shed out back...let alone a castle! Again...the laws are set in place mainly so that minimally-accepted building standards are met...to keep the homeowner and their family safe, as well as surrounding neighbors. The devastation seen in 3rd world countries happens due to lack of same.

He is of a generation where they did not have so many regulations (less people per capita) and people of his era are forever trying to *buck the system* (and *spewing* their lousy attitudes onto the next generation!) so...he probably knowingly started building this place and thought that he was *entitled* because it was on his property...without a)checking the zoning guidelines that were in place at the time he began; b) getting a building permit for that castle, in the first place. I know for a fact that they would NOT have allowed something like that to have been built! There are codes (regulations) for all kinds of things being built in a home.

Even being next to a national forest is another part of the issue: they are trying to preserve a place where actual trees are still allowed to stand! lol! And...the *rubber-neckers* that stop to look @ his place are probably disrespecting any and everything around them...throwing litter and whatnot; ruining species of endangered wildflowers, etc. Alot of people have no regard for anything that isn't their own and even then, it is questionable! lol!

So...yeah...we DO have all kinds of regulations out the wazoo over here! And...in the end, he most likely built that castle illegally, also, and...deep down...he knows it but...as he even admitted: he an EGOTIST!

I can see both sides of regulations. Basically, the situation is this: I want to do as I please, without interference. And I want the freedom to interfere with my neighbors if I don't like what they do...
