Born on the fifth of July

So tomorrow, July 5, is the American Freedom day. Liberation, independance, something like that. I think they threw out a king many decades ago. It's wonderful, good for you, Americans. Don't eat too much turkey now.
There was a Tom Cruise movie about it, he was in a wheelchair and he broke his leg so the bone poked out, it was really funny.

...except that the USA Independence holiday is July 4th. But happy 5th of July to you anyway - for whatever reason.

Tensely. There are probably a number of Americans who don't think anything is wrong with your 'test'. "Oh, Independence Day is on the 4th, my bad." ;o)

Erm, looking at those time stamps these posts all happened as I was going to bed. The day is only just beginning here.

I thought the 5th of July was when we celebrated Guido Fawkes. Hence all the fire works.

And, like Koreans, Americans eat dog on the 4th. They are often a type of mutt called "Turkey Dogs", I guess it must be something like a Spaniel or a Labrador, must be pretty big if they can carry a turkey.

I thought turkey season started on 12th August (The glorious 12th), so maybe they cull the old lame dogs before the hunting season.

Are you sure that was Tom Cruise, not Cary Grant in that British comedy drama "Rear Window" by Sir Alfred Hitchcock?

I sometimes wonder if moving to this country was a mistake.

No, Mr. R. Window was played an actor named Ironside, I believe.

Sigh. Eolake, you have it so wrong. It wasnt Tom Cruise. It was Will Smith and he wasnt in a wheelchair he was in a flying saucer killing the aliens for Jeff Goldblum. Sheesh. If you're going to talk about a country other than your own at least get that fact right.

Canada Day was on the 1st..but did anyone mention that? Oh noooo... :(

Yeah, and here in California there is a big whoop about St Patricks day, but what about St George? Are there more Irish here then English? No, there are more Mexicans. I don't mind 5th May, at least they celebrate with good food and drink.

4th of July is stupid, you pick the middle of fire season to send fireworks into the dry brush! We already have about 1,000 wildfires in this state alone, and they want to start more!

As for a day of patriotic pride, the Americans harp on about their only two days of overcoming opression, 4th and Turkey Day. In Britain we have had so many we don't even know when they were. Do we have a "Romans Gone Home Day"? Do we have a "Saxons kicked out week"? Do we have a "Celt buggered off to the hills at last" day? How about "Vikings Vanquished Day"? Do we have a VE day? Well yes we have the last.

In Britain we have no days to celebrate say the unifying of the kingdoms, I know Cambria seems to have split off again, but still, we were mostly unified. Maybe we need a "Squashed the Scots" day to celebrate when we took over the Northern part.

The only thing we celebrate is the failure to overthrow the government. Bizarre eh.

Come to think of it, if Thatcher made such a fuss over The Falklands, why didn't she kick the French back our of Brittany? That would have been fun.

And EO was Right, Perry Ironside played the Back Window guy.

What about Miss Torso though. Wish I had a neighbour like that.
