Exploratorium

I found a very cool institution and web site, the Exploratorium.
I found it while googling for info on how bicycles work. And it has tons of information just on that one topic alone. Way more than any other site I found so far, and easily understood.
The institution is partly financed by memberships, so I bought one.

Eolake, congratulations on finding the Exploratorium! As nice as their website is, the actual museum is much more interesting. They believe that people learn best by 'doing', rather than by being told, so most of the exhibits have an experimental element to play with. Next time you're in San Francisco, be sure to see it!

I have heard so many times about the Exploratorium from friends and from TV, now I am reading about it on your blog, I can but be sorry that I have not visited it in person.

We are very lucky here in the San Francisco Bay Area. In San Francisco we have "The Exploratorium", in Berkeley we have "The Lawrence Hall of Science", in San Jose we have "The Tech" and "The Childrens Discovery Museum". They all believe in hands on exhibits and interactive teaching. There are some other smaller ones too.

I think the Exploratorium is the best of the lot here, and is more enjoyable in some respects than the Smithsonian in D.C., or the Science Museum in London.

We also have the "Academy of Sciences", which is normally in Golden Gate Park, a more traditional museum. A few hours away is the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which does for aquariums what the Exploratorium does for Science museums.
