[Thanks to Robb and TCGirl]
Awesome version. I think I'll educate meself a bit more on Eagles, I missed on them as on so much more, growing up in a small town in DK.
Now, they had many good songs, but it's clear that Hotel California has a special lightning-strikes magic. The kind of combination of depth and width that any artists aspires to achieve at least once in a lifetime.
I like that the audience restrained themselves to one cheer when they recognized the song, and didn't start again when he started singing.
That very pretty person with the long hair on the left, is that a dude or a girlie? Based on the nasal profile and jaw, I'm guessing male, but certainly a person born to be in Entertainment. You know, the kind everybody notices. Except, it seems, the cameraman or editor of this video.
"... she got the Mercedes bends..." is that the actual lyrics? Pretty funny.
It seems the mature Don Henley has dropped the habit of singing "say-hey" for "say" (it seems odd without it), but has picked up the habit of singling " 'otel California", like he was cockney.
The big drums have a fantastic sound, especially when they're in focus in the intro. Clever of them to make a new, full intro, with material which is brand new and yet fits. Even more clever to do such a massive hit arguably even better than the original. Det sker ikke tit.

"Awesome version."
Yeah; I liked it a LOT, too! I've never seen the classical guitars quite played out like that on it, before. LOVED that!
"I've recorded it via this video and Audio Hijack." Cool!
"And I think I'll educate meself a bit more on Eagles..."
Cool! I think you'll LOVE them! Personally, I think that they're the world's BEST classic rock from back then! *So* much fricken talent in one group, it's INCREDIBLE! You don't realize it...until you're sitting right next to them. Seriously! You want someone to pinch you 'cuz those guitars are so incredibly intoxicating to watch and listen to! And...Don Henley's voice...well...that just about sends me over the edge, anyway! lol!
"I missed on them as on so much more, growing up in a small town in DK."
Trust me; I feel the same, having grown up "over here," rather than ALL the culture of the rest of the world that "you guys" are exposed to; the VAST array of music that Laurie has just floors me! (sigh) But...between Canada and the U.S. (as well as several favorites from the UK), I think I got a pretty good taste of classic rock, when I was growing up. :-)
"I like that the audience restrained themselves to one cheer when they recognized the song, and didn't start again when he started singing."
Yeah. It seems like a small, more "intimate" venue. I wonder where it is. It's pretty nice-looking. Probably a more "civilized" crowd...rather than the "ruckus" crowds that a larger venue draws (even though I didn't notice much, when I was sitting right next to the boys, myself! lol! :-P)

Yes...I was going to comment on him. It's funny, I have always noticed him but never knew his name (hey, in my day, we just had "records"! lol! We just had to "imagine" what they looked like, back then...unless we were able to get to a concert, which I was not!) I'm cheating (looking at the Wikipedia link that I included, earlier): it's 'Timothy B.' :-) I can't help noticing him 'cuz of his long, GORGEOUS hair! :-P (probably why I STILL have that "fetish," today: I LOVED to see the long-haired dudes! :-D
"Except, it seems, the cameraman or editor of this video."
Exactly! (funny; I was going to comment on this, in the first post, but realized that I had already written a LOT!) I was wishing that they had taken better vid of him and [is it?] Glenn Fry (I guess this vid must be older than I thought 'cuz he didn't look quite as handsome @ the concert as this. Must've been his younger self, here.) and...that fricken drummer with the sexiest "male hair" that I've seen in a LONG time!! :-P
""... she got the Mercedes bends..." is that the actual lyrics? Pretty funny."
Yes; that's the lyrics! Funny...I had never really looked the lyrics up for this song, before! That *is* "pretty funny"!! :-)
And...coming to think of it, I think it was actually Don Henley's lyrics that had me starting to pay more attention to lyrics. He has some really powerful lyrics. Like, for instances, 'Dirty Laundry' and another favorite ''Gimme What You Got.'
Aw, heck...I can't mention the lyrics without finding some uboobs of the actual songs!! 'Dirty Laundry' (and you get the "feel" of what their YUMMY concerts are like and those SEXY guitars watching this one!) and (dang! Can't find a uboob on Don singing this so...an audio you'll get) 'Gimme What You Got' (sounds like what's going on w/'iPad,' these days! lol! Congrats, GG, BTW, on your 'Baby'! lol! ;-)
CRANK IT, Baby!! :-D
(Can you imagine this? I actually got a "warning" that I had exceeded a 4K+ HTML limit w/this posting! I actually beat Pascal!! lol! ALL your "fault," Robb; you "unleashed" the CRAZY Classic Rocker that I am! Shoulda NEVER got me started! lol! :-D
You don't need URL-shortening if you're embedding the link in the text.
It seems rhapsody is not allowed overseas.
Love the lyrics to Dirty Laundry.
I was gonna claim to be the dude with the long hair in the video, since I'm pretty and all, but TC [Girl] popped that balloon.
Yeah, right, Kent. You're homely as a mule's butt.
I bought The Eagles "Hotel California" when I was a wee teenager in the seventies. Every song a winner on that album - listen to it on my Ipod to this day!
This performance is from the concert on the Hell Freezes Over DVD. I have it and should watch it again; it's been a while.
Thanks.
It has high reviews (and it even cheap) on Amazon UK, so I'm getting it.

OK, Dear. ;-)
"It seems rhapsody is not allowed overseas."
Good to know! I've been looking around for decent vid on a couple of songs that Don's done that have really well-written lyrics - 'Garden of Allah' (lyrics) and [a crappy audio loop; hope it works, over there] 'Workin' It' (lyrics) but that was the best I could find. The best vid I could find was for 'Everything is Different Now' (lyrics) which has a pretty good message, too (methinks that he's talking to the devil in this one!)
"Love the lyrics to Dirty Laundry."
Yeah; me too. (thought you would)

Funny you, Kent! (what...d'ya have a string tied from the muzzle of your musket to your computer that reels you in, every time there is a "long-haired dude" comment?! ;-)
Sorry to beat you to the punch! lol! :-)

I used to hang w/some kids that had that album and we played the snot out of it!

I agree!
"listen to it on my Ipod to this day!"
Cool! Yup, they're pretty amazing musicians!

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I was going to go back through the comments. You saved me some time! Thanks!

I think you "should;" it looks like an awesome concert! :-)
The usual weird shit: I can't buy Eagles' Hotel California on the UK iTunes store! Only a billion versions by "tributes bands". I'd be pissed off by that BS if I weren't one of the few who have set up an account in the US iTunes store with a friend's credit card.

Yup! Nice to have "friends" like that! ;-)
Whup's with the quotation marks? "Friends" is a TV show.

Audio track recorded and available here.
The Eagles have always been fantastic, and Don Henley's signature voice is part of what drives them. Their EDEN album is equally fantastic - and I listen to it all to this day.
Their Eden album makes some interesting, if hidden statements about our human society. The song 'Busy Being Fabulous' is just one example.
I might plug in the old IPOD and play Eagles through the entire place here. Might even turn on the outdoor speakers. :-)
...and it's 'Mercedes Benz' - as in the car, not bends. My 300D and 300SD are insulted. :-)
Well, it does sound like he sings "She's got *the* Mercedez...", and he does like plays on words. I dunno.
"Might even turn on the outdoor speakers."
You could do worse to your neighbors. Play Skinny Puppy for instance.
...and it's 'Mercedes Benz'
As far back as I can remember, it's been the Mercedes bends, which I've always interpreted as a comment on her curvaceous body.
Found here:
The lyrics for this [song] came with the album. Some people thought the line "She's got the Mercedes Bends" was a misspelling of "Mercedes Benz," and wrote [Don] Henley to complain. The line was a play on words.
And regarding this version of the song that Eo posted:
When the Eagles got back together in 1994, they recorded a live version of this for an MTV special that was included on their album Hell Freezes Over. The album was #1 in the US its first week.
I'm surprised you've never heard this version before. Once that album came out it was playing everywhere in Spain, and I don't think I've ever heard the original version played since.
I may have without noticing it. But my music "education" is weird, in that in all my adult life I have never had a radio. Only played records.
I interpreted "Mercedes bends" as something being dizzy or crazy or nuts about luxury, it fits with her mind being "Tiffany-twisted".
("The bends", of course, being a dangerous condition which can hit people who come up from deep water too fast, little bubbles form in their blood from the lessening pressure.)
(See here.)
I've found the downside to this song: you can chuck it out all you like, but it will never leave!

"...chuck it out," huh? lol! Good one! (alright; no more "bastardizing" the lyrics of the BEST band in the WORLD, OK?! ;-)
"Det sker ikke tit."
Bet you just wrote that to, um, "perk" the guys up and have them sit at attention! :-D
Det sker heller ikke tit. But you never know, one has to test occasionally.
Funny enough, if one has my odd sense of humor, it's a quote from an early-reading text written by one of my friends, which used many occurrences of the sounds the letter ER often have in Danish:
Mor ser at det sner.
Mor ler.
Se, det sner! Det sner!
Det sker ikke tit.
(Mom sees that it's snowing. Mom laughs. Look, it's snowing, it's snowing! That doesn't happen often.) Poetry.
Just as in this life we lead:
"You can check out any time
you like, but you can NEVER
leave..."
I continue to play Eagles - will
until Wednesday.
and...
"I got holes in both of my shoes,
I'm a walking case of the blues,
saw a dollar yesterday, but
the wind blew it away.
Goin' back to Houston, Houston,
Houston.
Texas.
Speaking of shoes, Robb, don't forget to play 'Those Shoes.' :-)
