Shotgun handgun
This handgun fires shotgun shells. What a kick. It is popular with Taiwanese gang members, despite costing, gasp, $7,000. That must surely be a price based on supply and demand, this thing does not look like it's costly to manufacture.
Most of these DIY creations are made to fire the .410 cartridge, which is much smaller but still perfectly capable of leaving large messy holes in things at short range. I guess that $7000 must be the going rate for intimidation and street cred, and having something where 'I've got a bigger one than you' is still important to these individuals. The crazy part is that recoil and barrel flip are going to be uncontrollable here ... if he doesn't clear the room with his first shot, he's gonna end up dead before he can get off a second one! Shame :-)
This gun also fires shotgun shells (.410- which are pretty small), but looks better. The one you show is made to fire 12-gauge shells, judging by the edge of the chamber visible in the cylinder. That's gonna kick.
I think the reason the gun shown is so expensive is that guns are "illegal" in Taiwan. Prohibition does wonders for the market value of an item.
I have shot .45s a lot, both semi-auto and revolvers, and have never had one kick back and come close to hitting me in the head. I'd never start a novice out with a .45, though. Let them get used to the recoil of something milder first.
Also- Philocalist- notice the grip on the front of the gun below where the barrel joins the frame. That would allow a two-handed grip in order for you to control barrel flip.
Is it really more convenient than the classic sawed-off shotgun? Or just some chinese mobster fad? :-p

When there are so many elegant lady-sized handguns perfectly adequate for shooting a rapist's nuts off... or his skullcap! (OK, maybe not the skullcap, but they can kill most efficiently; excellent for self-protection.)

The only people who might have trouble purchasing a gun here, are people who don't have the means to pay for an "illegal" weapon anyway. All the others receive it as standard issue from their boss Politician.
