The reason? Religion.

Well how else was the real estate agent supposed to sell them on it? The Hebrew scriptures were genius marketing.

Has anyone ever told you you're a genius? You're a genius. You shouldn't be wasting your wit on a place like this. P.G. Wodehouse come again? Oscar Wilde? Wow! I mean, really, wow!

Adolf did have a nice place reserved for the J-people, in Madagaskar, but the plan was abandoned when he lost the war.[1]

Not the war, the Battle of Britain. The Germans needed them out of the way, and use of their ships, to get the job done. Madagascar would have been a nicer homeland than the shitpile sandbox they've got now.
