Web paranoia ain't new

That's probably from World War II. It wouldn't have been paranoia then.

The illustration, caricature though it may be, appears to be of a World War One German, complete with a 'Kaiser Bill' (Kaiser Wilhelm II) moustache and 'pickelhaube' helmet.

So, if "Intelligence Officer, North East Army Department" - the publisher - was working from that picture of the enemy, I hope it WAS WWI, or he was somewhat out of date.............

There is another line of print (bottom, left of picture) but these old(er) eyes can't make it out: probably just the printer's name and address ! Seems to start 'Walden', perhaps - now there's a place-name with which you philosophers may conjure.

I agree that it's probably WWI, but that helmet type is still used in caricatures of German soldiers today. That by itself doesn't mean much.
