Two of the Most Entertaining SF Novels from the 1980s

Two of the Most Entertaining SF Novels from the 1980s, review(s).

I haven't read Vacuum Flowers, but I guess I should, because I can vouch for the other one, The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers. An amazing feat of fantasy.

The Anubis Gates on Amazon

I'm delighted to see that most of Tim Powers' books are in print. So many other excellent mid-range authors are lost to the used-book stores.

In my blog: El Navegante Solitario I wrote about the two novels I took to my vacation this (southern) summer, on February: The House in the Borderland, by William Hope Hodgson, and The Anubis Gates. Wonderful. Both.

The first one, is that the story with the loooooong time?

Yes. In fact, it was the germ for two novels about loooooooong spaces of time: The Star Maker, by Olaf Stapleton, and The Time Machine, by H.G.Wells. Both in Hodgon's and Wells', there is a narrator who sees the sun and the moon drawing lines in the sky, as time accelerates.

It's certainly a highly imaginative book. I read it after Alan Moore recommended it.
