Dell Streak

The five-incher* tablet/cell phone Dell Streak is supposed to launch in just a couple of week, but very little is known yet, including price.

*The iPhone's screen is 3.5 inches (always diagonal), the iPad's is near ten inches. So will a five-inch device be Goldielocks, or sit down between two chairs?

Too large to fit in your pocket, too small to make you look cool at the local Starbucks. It's dead in the water.

I did manage to Look Cool at the cafe before the pad is released here in the UK (on Friday). Did get admiring words from the waitress.

I think Miserere was talking about the Streak, not the iPad.

I'm even too shy to pull it out of its bag in public places now. I was in a trendy cafe a few days ago and there were no less than 4 people spying me over my shoulders (I was showing some comics to a friend) and talking about it.

The Dell Streak must be able to fit in your pocket as Steve Wozniak has proved that even the iPad is "pocketable". http://www.scottevest.com/company/ipad.shtml

Oh, I know, I just use any excuse to talk about waitresses.

Must be weird, to be a shy person in *Italy*! At least in Northern Europe, there are so many of us that people are used to it.

it's weird. Maybe it's not real shyness but peer pressure. I do not want to feed into the equation Apple product user = rich snob.

So the "status symbol" works both ways -- sometimes you are just annoyed that people are labeling you because of what you wear or the gadgets you use.

I only use the cheapest of clothes (I buy in hard discount type shops) because Italy has such a shameful fashion culture that I hate.. recently I have received several "designer clothes" (branded tshirts etc) as a present, because they don't fit a friend who lost weight so he gave them to me.. so I'm wearing a few designer things, and I'm toting an iPad.. some guys may think I have won the lottery.

Oh well I am still driving a 11 year old Matiz.
