Juice and müsli

Here's a tip if you're trying to cut down on dairy for whatever reason: try juice on the müsli instead of milk. It sounds strange, but myself, I not only got used to it almost immediately, but would never go back now, and it's been five years.

Pure orange juice is too sweet for me, I use one part OJ, one part grapefruit juice, and one part water.

It's just a thought.  I don't intend to start a "religious war" about diet.       :-)

I've done that on occasion when we've run out of milk at work but there are cans of OJ in the fridge.

I have also used coffee to moisten cereal when I was in the army. I was a driver and we would leave base before dawn with sappers to sweep the roads for mines. We often returned after brunch (we had two meals per day) to find that food had been kept for us but there was no milk left. This left coffee as the only liquid we could use. As far as army food went it was better than average.

Years ago I read the book (Iberia) by James Mitchner...He mentions bringing museli with him to his hotel room while visiting abroad...I was intrigued by this since I had never heard of this cereal...So I found some in a health food store and ate it and found I liked it...

I have changed my eating patterns since then considerably...I love eggs cooked any way at all and toasted English muffins and and hashbrowns or grits and bacon,sausage or ham...and hot black coffee...

Now I read that you eat your museli without milk but with orange and grapefruit juice and water...This also intrigued me ...So yesterday I bought the juices and made my own museli from scratch (ground oats and nuts and seeds and fruit) and poured on the juice...and "Voila"...

You sold me...I am starting a healthy eating campaign and I now know what to expect for breakfast ...Thank you!

I have tried many cereals over the decades, and I find müsli to be the most of my liking, as well as being much less unhealthy than cornflakes or many other kinds.

I like to pour vodka on mine. Sometimes I'll mix it up and use gin or even a cheap whiskey. Adds a little zing to it and starts the day off right!
