Paintshop Pro 3

Corel has released Paintshop Pro 3. (Seems it's Windose only.)

It's been many years since I've used anything but Photoshop, what is your opinion as to the best affordable alternative to it?

Although I've access to several incarnations of Photoshop, including CS4, I'll admit to being an avid fan of PaintShopPro for many years. It will do pretty much anything that CS4 will do apart from some pretty obscure high-end stuff that I don't even pretend to understand!
Based on a trade-off between cost and performance, I'd go with PaintShopPro every time (or even Photoshop Elements), but if you want a GOOD FOC alternative, Picasa takes some beating, IMHO!

Pixelmator is the most pleasant to use. The most affordable is GIMP.

I agre with Philocalist. I've only ever used PaintShopPro, and it's all I've needed. I'm told the learning curve for PS is looong, it's a memory hog, and the cost.

I use Pixelmator and am very happy with it.

I use iPhoto, Pixelmator, LightZone and Photoshop Elements for 98+% of what I do with photos on my Mac. Lately I have experimented with a few apps on my iPhone, but mostly for fun (even though phototropedelic is quite interesting)
