What modern cameras can do

Few things are as taxing of a camera and photographer as bird photos. The high sensitivity of the new sensors and the speed of autofocus these days is pretty amazing. And not to forget you have to be a pretty durn good photographer to do something like this.

Talking about animal photos, this is cool.

Very mixed feelings about these photos, particularly the wolf. Technically competent, yes, but also very heavy on the 'so what' factor.
As you say, technological advances now allow all sorts of pictures to be taken with relative ease; a wildfowl centre, point the camera with fast auto focus / auto exposure / auto bracketing et al and depress (and hold) the shutter release. I'm not saying that it's a foregone conclusion, but things are heading that way.
Any less valid a picture? Probably not. Masses of skill involved? Hmmmmmmm.
The wolf took years of planning? Take one camera with flashguns, and a motion activated trigger. Set it up on a known animal trail, go take a good long nap, as necessary.
Cynical, or just a little older and wiser?

I admit I get quickly bored with animal photos too. (But I get excited about technical advancements.)

I was in a local camera club a couple of years ago, but it bored me. One month the contest was won by a snapshot of a monkey taken in India. Monkeys are as common there as cats are here. If that shot had been of a cat, the judge would not have looked at it twice.

Unless it was a kitten, and the judge was me.
Then I'd definitely look at it twice. :-)
(Not making any promises though!)

Hilarious comment I read on Mike's wolf page:

Wonder if he got a second shot of the wolf, dazzled by the unexpected flash, completely botching the jump, hitting the gate, then ripping apart the camera in a fit of embarrassed irritation? ^_^

Goshdurn no-goodnik animal paparazzi, thinking Someone appointed them masters and owners of this planet's wildlife, frickin-frackin-sassafrassin-mumble-mumble...
And where's my fwazzin' image rights commission, you Yahoo? I'll sue!
