Giving up my iPod for a Walkman

Giving up my iPod for a Walkman, article.
"My dad had told me it was the iPod of its day. He had told me it was big, but I hadn't realised he meant THAT big. It was the size of a small book."

... Well, one has to admit it's a stone-age model. The last Walkman I bought ten years ago was hardly bigger than the tape, and looked really nice.

...and when you had a walkman you still had to buy prerecorded cassettes or record your own music.

How easy life has become:

1. When you hear a song over the radio, and know the title
2. Grab your iPod, go to iTunes, select the song, and download it, and pay 99 Eurocents for it - Done!

And this tiny gadget can do so much more for you!

Just found this

AT&T now have a Sony Walkman in their family of cell phones.

Curious thing is use of a single button and movement/gestures to change volume and literally shuffle tracks on the play list. Quite bizarre.

You do what now?

...Seriously though, if people 30 years ago when the Walkman first came out had known that something like the ipod lay in the future, they would have been very depressed. But it was newest, coolest thing out. What had existed before? You couldn't take your music with you.

Just as the ipod makes the walkman look amazingly primitive, whatever they have 30 years from now will do the same for the ipod. Maybe we will be accessing the internet mentally and downloading directly into the brain. (I don't actually fancy that, but if it happens it will seem normal to a new generation.) It will be like in Back to the Future Part II, when Marty shows a couple of kids in the Cafe 80s how to play an arcade game: "You mean you have to use your hands?! It's like a baby's toy!"

Back to the Future Part 2 sucked shit. Second only to Part 3 as the shittiest of the series. Only the first one was any good and even that one had stupid parts like someone (Marty's dad) stupid enough to be convinced that an alien had really visited him.
