Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D
Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D, wiki article. The movie and the 3D is getting very good reviews. I hope it will work well also on a home screen, because I rarely have the patience these days for movie theatres.
Almost went to see it yesterday. I have mixed feelings about 3-D. Honey I Shrunk The Audience was pretty good, but that theater was designed for it (not just 3-D FX). I wonder how well it works in our local cinema.
The only other 3-D I've seen was the coronation and part of The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Alex, I'd rather watch Heavenly Creatures from the Blue Lagoon in 3-D! :-)
I've only read one review on MvA3D so far, and it was pretty negative: "All visuals, lame story". But then I saw a trailer, on my common 2D TV, and thought it looked as entertaining as Volt, Cars, or maybe even The Incredibles. It has some of the feel of The Incredibles, anyway. Same comics style for the lead human character. I'm pretty sure it'll be a success with its usual target audience: kids and anyone who likes animation. [Maybe that was the problem with Beowulf? The story was a whole lot different in style and spirit. Too different perhaps.]
And anyway, it's pretty hard to come up with a fully original plot theme, isn't it? With the incredible richness of intellectual production these last centuries or so. Even Harry Potter brings nothing previously unseen to the overall story theme. Nowadays, it all comes back to the basics: (s)he who knows how to tell a story well and make it entertaining, with creativity in the details, will find a public. Re-using themes (MvA3D basically goes with the known recipe of "let's put two classics together") has always been done, anyway. LaFontaine essentially retold the fables of Aesop, which themselves came from the oral folklore. It's the storytelling talent that counts. Entertain me, and you'll win my heart.
"I guess they need a special projector." Not the ones with anaglyphs. (You know, two colors, one for each image.) Which seem to have adapted to properly colored pics, I suppose by only shifting the hues. You're right about this one though. It seems they've finally perfected a system which lets you watch a whole movie without any discomfort. Like way cool awesome, man! Next step, 3D videogames at long last?
You're right to want to avoid theatres these days. In the first weeks of such a movie, expect them to be loaded with kids, and there's always a minority of noisy ones to get on your nerves. Avoid especially theaters in Lebanon. Trust me.
Just yesterday, my brother (visiting from the States) was reminding us that lebanese children can wail non-stop in an airplane for four hours. Ya mammie!
Pascal, talking of cars! I like the idea of the Chevy Volt, wish they'd commit to the electric car.
Honey was a cross polarize 3-d, I don't think special projectors come into it unless they double the frame rate or some such.
There were babes in the Creature movies.
As for toon girls, The E-Surance girl is my go to fave these days, kinda like Kim Possibles cuter cousin! Though Monsters v Aliens has an interesting "Art Of.." book in stores right now.

I've actually never seen a 3D feature.

Working from home rocks. I love my life.
