It's no problem, but if you use a heavy ballhead, you must only use a light camera out of concern for the chicken. A Canon 1Ds with a large ballhead will tire out the bird very quickly, and you'll get shaken pictures soon anyway, negating the advantage.

Curious, does the Really Right Stuff, BH-40 ballhead attach to the chickens head, or is an adaptor required?
