Spilt milk

"Let's use that spilt milk to put out this burning bridge."
-- The Tick

There should be more shows like this. Dead fun, and has the lure of superheroes with none of the special effects budget.

If youlike The Tick, then check out The Middleman. or for a more adult and british fare..No Heroics.

The Tick was kinda fun, only saw a half dozen episodes, but it was fun.

I miss some of those old toons, like "Stressed Eric" and, hmm I'm getting forgetful in old age.

Leviathud,
Were those TV shows? I don't find either on DVD.

Hey wait, that link is to a live action show? I half remember hearing about a live action film.

I just can't imagine how The Tick could be translated to live action. Well, I can, but it's not flattering.

Eolake,
Yes. They are both tv shows. I dont believe either of them have made it to dvd yet but Im sure there could be other ways of seeing them...not that Im suggesting anything.

Also, the cartoon version of the tick is better than the live action and the original comic book version is better thatn the cartoon.

And Ben Edlund who created all three went on to work with Josh Whedon.

Admittedly I was not a steadfast reader of the comic, but I think they did a wonderful job with the live action show. It's really funny. Not the least Patrick Warburton is absolutely perfect as the Tick.

I had never heard of The Tick before seeing the live action show. Later I saw a couple of episodes of the animated show (man was it bad) and read a bit of the comic (even worse). The live action is the only way to go. I'm just surprised the comic was ever popular enough to warrant making a show never mind two. Besides, The Tick seemed like a version of the Cockroach from out of Cerebus.

Actually I think the Roach was inspired by the Tick.

But I agree with you, and anyway, so far as I know, the Tick *was* a decidedly underground phenomenon, even in the comics world, maybe not even as big as Cerebus, and nowhere near X-men or Batman.

I've been reading up, and it seems I was wrong, it looks like the Tick was indeed inspired by Dave Sim's Roach, and not vice versa.

Sim said:
"People ask me if it bothers me that the Tick seems so much like the Roach. Listen, neither of them would've existed without Superduperman. To be able to see for the first time exactly the level of exaggeration necessary, my hat is off to Wally Wood."
