Tilting screen

I'm interested in the new Sony cameras with improved Live View and a tiltable screen.

I'm a fan of those features because to limit your camera viewpoint to eye hight is just silly, and a tiltable screen makes other options far easier.

For example, I could not have taken these humorous pictures of street signs here in town (it's not temporary or a mistake, every single sign is supposed to be there, while the bridge is closed) without the tiltable screen on my old Nikon 2400 (which they sadly have not updated), because to get the perspective I had to hold the camera far above my head.

By the way, which one do you think is best?

The top one, definitely.

I also like the portrait one better. On the landscape one, the people on top left somehow distract from the "message". Although the "Karaoke Tonight" sign kind of adds to it.

The chap in front of the cab is better on the portrait one.

Overall I think the portrait one is tighter and stronger.

Are ye so small????
Not to worry, I'm too tall, to put the matter into balance. Ouch!! Banged my head into a door lintel.

:-))

I like the feature of a tiltable screen with my Panasonic Lumix.

And if you didn't have digital, you would have shot it three times, and had to wait for it to come back from Boots. But with digital you can see your mistakes there and then.

I think information overload...

We have to know Cervantes to understand "tilting" in both contexts.

Hey...

1) British need "Businesses" translated as "Shops". That is probably true. Business means an office of light industry, not shop or factory (shop meaning retail unit or store, not 'shop meaning workshop, which seems to be the CA usage).

2) Classic FX4 taxi. None of those Metrocabs or newer TX1's.

3) Kwik Save - they survived the Walmart/ASDA and LIDL invasions. They reduced cost by not putting price stickers on their merchandise in the days before bar codes. My grandma always called them Kiwi (as in the shoe polish).

4) Interesting pick-up truck. Not very British at all. I guess they are global now. Looks like it wants to be an Avalanche.

5) School, hospital, borstal. All those red brick buildings look alike. This one has a hint more school.

Oh, top one is better.

I'm 194cms (6-4), but this demanded a 220 cm viewpoint.

For some reason I did not picture you as being that tall, but average - about 5'10". I don't know why. Of course, height is relative. I'm sure 6'4" is small to some basketball Centers for example.

So tall?? Gasp! You dwarf me with my 1.90m.
I've had the same image of you as Joey, maybe your thumbnail pic insinuates a smaller person.
Anyway, welcome to the Head Banging Club.

And Joey, where's the cool picture of yourself?

Ditto. Vertical one definitely works best.
Ideally, you should return there, and take another vertical shot slightly to the right, that would also show the "Karaoke Tonight" sign.

194cms? I had a hunch. You look like a tall fella. (Not skinny, either.)
Something in your confident tranquillity, perhaps.
