Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman. Gorgeous and outrageous comedienne. (Interview.)

I noticed her because she had arguably the most brilliant bit on The Aristocrats documentary/comedy. (The film makers agreed with me.)

She had a key role in the wonderful Greg The Bunny show, which sadly did not last long. Get the DVD.

She also had her own show, The Sarah Silverman Program, in which she, like in the Aristocrats bit, plays sort of herself, and presents a unique mix of child-like total innocence with the filthiest sort of comedy you can imagine. Extraordinary. She will say things that would make the South Park writers blanche, and do it with big, innocent eyes and an angelic smile. (Lo her "Porn Song".)

That show came on DVD with only a few episodes, so I thought it had been cancelled due to being too far out. But according to Wiki, it was a huge success and will be continued once the Hollywood writers' strike is over. Good for her. And good for us. While it did not make it into my top-five shows ever, I think, it's definitely a fresh slant on comedy, which we always need. And we are in dire need of good comedies, since all the big sitcoms have been shut down. (Scrubs is a nice exception.)

I have heard of The Sarah Silverman Program but haven't seen it yet. I assumed it was canceled because usually anything of quality doesn't last very long - with some exceptions. I mean, Greg the Bunny didn't last long, but what's quality depends on who you ask I guess. She is definitely very funny. Like a lot of entertainers, etc., she has mental-health problems, suffering from depression. She said that she would like children but would rather adopt because she would not want her kids to inherent the depression.

I found that all the readily accessible clips of her on You Tube were essentially vapid -- just a marginally attractive female mouthing filthiness. Where's the wit? Disabuse me if I'm wrong, but there's no panache or brilliance, just a willingness to speak scatologically.

Not much good with her on YouTube, no.

Also, she is a bit hit and miss, admittedly. But when she hits, she does.

I remember seeing her on Star Trek - Voyager back in '96 and totally falling for her. I later found she was an SNL regular, and then forgot all about her until her recent TV show, where I still never made the connection. Just seeing her here on the blog reminded me.

There's a place for that kind of humour, Final. It depends on what mood I'm in. I'm fully capable of reading both Tolsoy and Tom Clancy. I can watch this kind of exeedingly coarse, crude humour. It has it's place, and if it's done well it can be funny. I don't think what's available on YouTube is her best work, either.

What happened to your pic, Final? Get sick of being called a carny hillbilly yokel?! ;-) Don't tell me you gave in to the haters! Leave Britney aloooone!

Isn't this the final season?

I hope not. But it couldn't last forever.

According to Wikipedia, "The seventh and final season of Scrubs premiered on October 25, 2007". It's too bad because you're right, it's a great show, and could probably go for longer and still be good.

I would not be sad at all about all the great sitcoms ending, if I had an idea that all those excellent actors and writers were starting up new and exciting shows. I hope they will.
