Roxy Music: Avalon

Update, TCG found this excellent live version:

This was one of the albums I had as a kid. Almost too sweet for my normal taste, but too good.
I love what they did with the female vocal in the last third.

I think, as an artist, it's a little bit of a pity: the album cover and the title suggest something epic, something timeless. (Avalon is the island from the King Arthur legends.) And the music really lives up to that, grand, bigger than life. But then when you listen to the lyrics, they're about a party and dancing.

Funny how that album looks familiar to me, even.

Yeah; a little "tame" for you, isn't it?! ;-)

I, totally, agree! I looked her up: She is a Haitian by the name of Yanick Etienne. (LOVE this song I just found that isn't French! LOVE the beat!)

Found a live version where you see her...and another "bit of interest" (female drummer in blue). I quite dig that saxophone, myself! :-P

And...looks like someone was kind enough to post the entire album; COOL! :-D

Pick of the Roxy Music albums would be Country Life. All of the first 5 are good, but it is the one I find best. Avalon seems well rated by some, but it doesn't seem a inspired.

That's one you got really right, TCG, that drummer in blue looks like heaven, it must be the color.

Yes...she musta come *straight* from there! :-) That sure wouldn't hurt to attract fans...all the women that are associated w/this band. If I remember, correctly, there was a female guitarist, as well. Cool. "Gurl Power!" :-D
