Shyness: Evolutionary Tactic?

Shyness: Evolutionary Tactic? article
A BEAUTIFUL woman lowers her eyes demurely beneath a hat. In an earlier era, her gaze might have signaled a mysterious allure. But this is a 2003 advertisement for Zoloft, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (S.S.R.I.) approved by the F.D.A. to treat social anxiety disorder. “Is she just shy? Or is it Social Anxiety Disorder?” reads the caption, suggesting that the young woman is not alluring at all. She is sick.

Maybe they should have used a man. Shyness in dudes has probably never been attractive.

And you, Eo, clearly suffer from CHD: Cerebral Hypercreativity Disorder.
But don't worry, they're working on a cure for that too.
"Now, with Jerryspringol®, you too can be as bland as an American President and with no opinion of your own."

Quit doing schtick.

I'm waiting for the day when someone finally designs a cure for Politics.
You see, Lebanon's case is gradually getting critical.

People who really suffer from it would welcome a cure. It's probably hard for you to understand, but not every drug "Big Pharma" produces is unneeded.

Come again?
Please explain to me that concept again. Slowly.

"People who really suffer from it would welcome a cure"

I was referring to the article. It did not exist until it was given a name in 1980.

"Social anxiety disorder did not officially exist until it appeared in that year’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual"

another quote from the article

"S.S.R.I.’s and poured tens of millions of dollars into advertising its existence."

So I was just referring to the advertising creating a demand for the drug cure.

If you are helped by the medical treatment then I have no problem. It is just when the cure is heavily advertised, there is a question of creating the demand..

I fear that politics will out live us all.

Keep your head down in Lebanon. Things tend to change slowly. Most politicians can't seem to find a new direction..aItoyar2

Not me personally, but I've known people who could benefit.

Advertising didn't invent the millions of people who genuinely have the problems treated by those drugs, even if (as with other drugs like Ritalin) there are those put on them who don't need them.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Many people will have some self perceived flaw and think it is a big deal.

When the truth is others hardly even notice. I am thinking a teenager with a pimple or when we age the grey start to creep into our hair.

Just saying you may be seeing a problem where there is none.

"I fear that politics will outlive us all."

Four men were debating about whose profession was the oldest in the world. (I said 4 MEN, so take your mind out of the gutter)!
- The Doctor: "Extracting a rib from Adam to grow Eve, that was surgery and medical bioengineering."
- The Architect: "Building the Earth and the Universe, that was Architectural design."
- The Philosopher: "But before that, God had to put order in the Universal Chaos, and that's a Philosopher's job."
- The Politician: "And who, pray tell, do you think was the CAUSE of that Universal Chaos?..."

As for keeping the head down: in Lebanon, wearing a safety helmet is mandatory... for our fine visitors! :-P

"Many people will have some self perceived flaw and think it is a big deal."

Well, it is. Take me, for instance: I'm so handsome, every time I go out I have to wear a latex Michael Jackson mask so that the females will vaguely leave me in peace. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! Trust me, they very much DO notice.
(sob) Boo-hoo! Why is it that Britney has the right to be left alone, but not me? :`(

"! Why is it that Britney has the right to be left alone,"

Britney has a limited shelf life. She has to flash a little extra skin to keep the cameras attention.
The public has a short attention span. Always looking for the "next big thing. "

Eventually the people will take control of the politicians.
They will gather with torches and pitchforks. A angry mob is not pretty.

Joe must be very stupid - took that Britney comment seriously!
