Polaroid next generation

It had to happen: Polaroid is born again in digital form. You can save and edit the 14MP photos, but you can also get them printed instantly or later by the camera, which has a printer making 3x4" prints.

They ought to make a setting in the camera so the pictures comes out looking like the classic SX-70 pictures with the oddly charming washed-out feeling and greenish whites. It was a fun medium to work in.

That will please police forces. Generations of forensic coppers used to rely on Polaroids to take instant photos at crime scenes. Saved them the wait for the films to come back from the dark rooms.

Excellent. I'm thankful for the police protecting us from hooligans and criminals.
(It's weird how there's no way to say that without it sound sarcastic.)

As far as the young crowd is concerned, being able to create instant prints is a non-issue. Sharing "prints" is done via Facebook, Instagram, [insert favorite social media app here]. Everyone has smart phones and/or tablets and can see your image almost instantly.

Polaroid may have gone digital, but in my opinion, this latest offering is just another example of Polaroid trying to hang onto the old paradigm.

I agree with Russ. It is an attempt to continue the old paradigm and I do not think it will work with the younger generations. Even the non-techies now have learnt to connect their cameras to the TV to show their vacation pics (or the DVD/BR player comes with a card reading slot). Large photo prints may still have a place as posters. Printing small size photo seems redundant and obsolete now...

what common folk need is a camera which is always connected to social media and has instagram/hipstamatic on it. Oh wait, they already have it, it's a mobile phone :-D
