New Ray sunset

Ray took another great sunset today.

(The pic he took with the jet trail did not included some of the trees below which had been in another shot, and I missed them, so I combined two pictures in Photoshop.)

Hah, I'm reminded of the readers-pictures-critique page in the old Danish mag Foto Og Smalfilm.  The bloke put up sunset pictures, and every time he complained about how much he hated sunset pictures and he wished people would stop sending them. But he kept posting them, so of course people kept sending them!

I just wish we'd get sunsets here. I mean majestic ones.

Best, most colourful sunsets I've ever seen were looking across Teesside, in the north-east of England, maybe 25 years ago.
Unfortunately, they were courtesy of the muck being thrown into the atmosphere (at that time) by collectively, British Steel and ICI ... the air above was such a soup of chemicals that you would get colours in sunsets that you could not possibly achieve with filters, drugs or a paintbox :-)
Substantially, the pollution went (along with many thousands of local jobs) ... so too did the sunsets:-)
Every cloud, silver lining etc :-)

Red sky in morning, volcanic ash. Red sky at night, more volcanic ash. The sailors' red sky weather rule is broken.

That looks like a bunch of missiles streaking in, and the sun is one of them going off.

Oh EO, caught again...

In a previous posting on this blog, "Van Gogh's Paintings Get Tilt-Shifted (updated)", you stated "Yes, Mike, well said. There is a very sad lack of respect for great artists' work."

Isn't this about the same thing? I mean you altered someone else's work.. :-)

Nay, nay, this is collaboration, see.

OH, I see now. So Ray knew that you were doing this :-)

Therefore it would be called "collaboration".

Since it's a photograph and not a painting - the sunset and landscape deserve most of the credit - it's really not the same thing.

@ Tommy -

Yes, Old Chap, it was collaboration.
There were three shots of the sunset but only two had the jet almost over the sun, without many treetops.

Eolake liked the treeline in the first one, so he put it together with one of the others, and I said
"I didn't think of that - thanks!"
Nothing got "tilt-shifted", sorry.

So altering a photograph is different than altering a painting. I'm confused, aren't they both pieces of artwork? And wasn't this artwork created by an artist (painter or photographer)?

How is this not the same thing? I'm confused on this one.

Forgot to mention. I now understand that EO and Ray worked on this together and that's ok. Actually, for the most part I was joking. Hence the :-)

Is it, though? The landscape, the sky, the sun are all doing the work. It's not a creative effort in the way a painting is. It's no secret that the people who go into photography don't have the talent for real art.

I don't think I'll comment on that one... :-)

They might not, but then people who are good at painting or sculpture might take shitty photographs.

It has to be said that many people who get into art, don't have the talent for real art, either!

That's probably true as well.
