Debra Paget in "Das indische Grabmal"

Ray found this and said "This was pretty hot stuff for 1959." I say, hey it's pretty hot stuff for today! Like Pinoccio, no strings on her.
And how fit she is, wow. Not so common then. She's a pure "ten".

Alex found another dance scene from this movie.

Yeah, she had a dance sequence in both parts of the Indian Epic. This one in "Indan Tomb" was racier than the one in "Tigers of Eschnapur". Sorry didn't realize this sort of thing would float your boat otherwise I would have pointed you to this Lang classic long since.

I still prefer "M", "Spies" and Mabuse. If you want racy Lang, then what about Helms dance in the club in "The Garden of the Sons" or whatever it was called, the rich guys hang out in Metropolis. She was wearing some pretty translucent gossamer garb there.

There is also a relatively hot scene in Spione between the Japanese spy and one of the evil crime lords minions.

Welcome to German cinema.

Oh, talking of which, what about Munchaussen? I love that scene where Cagliostro and the Baron are discussing a portrait, and she turns around to the comment of them preferring the other pose. Another film with bold images.

Whoever coreographed the dance has at least a passing knowledge of tantrism. One hand motion she does is symbolic of the rise of kundalini up to the crown chakra.
She is gorgeous. Is this a German film? Surely seems too hot to be made in Hollywood.

Alex said...

Yes, Lang returned to German in the 50's after the war. He has three distinct phases to his career, early German up to 35, Hollywood through the war years, then returning to Germany. This was actually a project he started earlier, I believe with Von Harbou, and completed in Germany.

Paget was an American actress though.

I've always thought of "M" as the first real Hitchcock movie. Even though Hitchcock had made a number of movies before "M" came out, and had nothing to do with making "M", it's the earliest movie that has the kind of psychological suspense that would later be associated with Alfred Hitchcock's greatest films.

Cool "outfit"! :-) Now, we need Ray(?) or Miserere(?) or someone who can speak German to translate the dialogue in the end. :-)

(silly looking cobra, though! lol!)

Yes, one has to abstract from the special effects when watching older movies.

Yes, it's interesting how she looks more "nude" than she would even in a bikini which covered less, just because there are no strings.

Yes, quite so. The German seems quite "off" for the language, as well, here! lol! I say that this cast could probably have come up w/a real 'Snake Charmer' and a cobra in a wicker basket, even back then! ;-) That would probably happen, today...at whatever expense!

"Yes, it's interesting how she looks more "nude" than she would even in a bikini which covered less, just because there are no strings."

Yeah. It was almost "difficult" to watch, a couple of times (as "discreet" as people used to seem to be, back then.) "worrying" for her! lol!

I was trying to figure out if it was an entire nylon bodysuit w/that bottom sewn on. I, somehow, doubt that they had double-sided tape back then! lol! :-)

I too was looking for a body-suit. But you coudn't have hidden it, there are always wrinkles.

They just found a way to glue it on, hopefully not too dang strong.

Yeah. I just went back to look at it, again, and was thinking of the same thing (no elephant ankles! lol!).

"They just found a way to glue it on, hopefully not too dang strong."

Yeah...they must have. It's quite impressive how it all flows so well.

And...I'm, now, watching that 2nd vid. Seems like some kind of dance from Thailand, I wonder? (not sure, of course; just speculating. Some of her moves look like their "deities"(?) there. It's cool but I like the first one best. More beautiful. :-)

Looks like she had already been dancing for quite awhile before dancing in this post's movie and seems to have had a really wonderful life so far. :-)

Yes, I almost said that since there were no gyms back then, anybody with such a body was either a sportsperson or a keen dancer.

@ TCGirl....

About translating the dialogue at the end: Sorry, My Dear, but it won't be me - I use a little gadget on the Windows 7 desktop in which you can type a few words, and get a translation for them - but it has to be in print first so you can spell it correctly or copy and paste it.

If I remember I can dig out my DVD and watch the scene, see what the subtitles say. I don't think it has a dubbed track, its the full 3-4 hours of the German film, not the 90 minute American cut, which would have different dialogue anyway.

TC [Girl] said...

Uh, it's alright, Alex. I was just curious (wondering where the subtitles were, myself. I don't watch many of those types of movies so didn't think about that until after I had made that comment.). You don't need to bother...at least on my account.

@Ray: I wasn't sure if you spoke German or not; had just noticed you posted a comment to someone ('Monsieur Beep'?), recently.

Do you mean

a) Foreign
b) sword and sandal / fantasy
c) classics by a master
d) TnA

?

Hey, I remember seeing that film! Ages ago.
I was quite young, but not so young as to not notice how hot that scene was. Felt purely gratuitous, too. I remember thinking: "I guess the villain forces her to dance just to enjoy the sight." ;-)

"the rise of kundalini up to the crown chakra"? Haven't got a clue what this means, but I love how naughty it sounds! :-D

TC,
You can barely(!) call it an outfit at all, LOL!
Cobra? WHAT cobra? Oooooooh, you mean the guy's big snake!
Riiiiight... 8-)

"doubt that they had double-sided tape back then! lol! :-)"
Actually, when I first saw the film, I had another idea than glue, about how that bottom held in place. [blush]
Like I said, I was young, but not TOO young! :-)

Dang! Another hetero girl out of the closet! How disappointing...

Ah well, you still have interesting conversation. So I'll forgive you this time, man-lover!
(Really, watching this scene did nothing to you? Not even a slight tingling? Guess you really prefer Schwarzenegger wearing nothing but a peplum...)

Liked the movie clip. She was able to charm the snake along with everyone in the room.

Was surprised at how short she was when standing with the men at the end.

Excellent dancing and body control. You can't hide dance talent. You have it or you do not.

Funny...I was only thinking in more general terms: foreign w/subtitles. I started watching some, recently...just before Hollywood Video went out of business. I don't have much patience for movies w/the subtitles. :-(

I don't usually care for old[er] films nor your b) option! lol! That one that I link to, above, looked kind of interesting, however...as cheesy as it looks like it might be! It might have been interesting to see the dancing (wondering if there was more in it).

(don't even know what "TnA" is; I don't get out much! ;-) lol!)

Yeah...the dude needs to "tame his snake;" he's out of control! lol! Didn't cha see how it lunged outta control at that gurl and looked quite GLEEFUL doing it?! :-/

LOL! SILLY you! Sorry to disappoint but...there will be NO such activity like that in this corner! lol!

"Ah well, you still have interesting conversation."

Thanks! Appreciate you saying so! :-)

"So I'll forgive you this time, man-lover!"

Yup! That's me! :-D

"(Really, watching this scene did nothing to you? Not even a slight tingling?"

Not a one! Only thing I thought of is how much of a bummer I didn't get into dance, when I was young. It looks very cool and...I LOVE music so...I bet it would have been enjoyable!

"Guess you really prefer Schwarzenegger wearing nothing but a peplum...)"

Sheesh! When you put it to me like that, I'd have to go w/the former of that sentence! :-D lol! (and thanks, BTW, for the stuff on pg 3 that I, absolutely, do NOT, um, "dig!" Was that on purpose?! lol!)

TC [Girl] said...

Oh, funny! Thanks, Eo! Hadn't thought of that! Yeah...I guess, then, that I would prefer [drum roll, please! lol!] d)...as in a couple and it being a romance. I'm not into the porn junk. Boring! :-/

Yes...she was an amazing dancer. Flawless and flowing; strong and beautiful. A perfectionist of her art form. :-)
