The Scary Truth About Marriage

Joe found this amazingly cynical satire. Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

Thanks for the laugh! This is perfect for your PoS blog. It's very ACIM.

Mark; how so?

The video's perspective is similar to ACIM because it presents our bodily lives (married or not) as temporary and meaningless, which is a lesson in the course.

"[The body] takes the central place in every dream, which tells the story of how it was made by other bodies, born into the world outside the body, lives a little while and dies, to be united in the dust with other bodies dying like itself." (T-27.VIII.1:3)

The video is also course-like because it presents its view with humor (in this case cynicism). Okay, perhaps it's not a perfect ACIM perspective. The cynical humor may be too harsh compared to the gentle laughter espoused by the course. I guess I just like black humor.

I am sure that at least with a spiritual perspective, it's much easier to laugh at...

it's very Ameri-centric but scarily accurate, and can be applied to Euro couples with some cultural tweaks. Luckily, I have done nothing of all this in my life, not even the "pick me up at 8" part, and I'm 42, so I can safely say I managed to skip it.

Yes, true what you say. I think dating is more ritualized in the US.

Anyway, I have been watching the whole Romance thing in films and TV all my life, and initially felt like it was mandatory, like I think many feel. But now I mainly feel lucky to have avoided it.

I think the reason that we go the romance, marriage have kids path. Is that we all have in the back of our minds that even though we see others do it and fail. We will be the exception to the rule.

It is like the thinking behind buying a lottery ticket. That little thought in our mind that we will be the one of the few that are able win, and live happily ever after.

I can fully see Mark's POV.

It's a rather funny film, a satire of people's obsession with "making their lives a success", intensely focusing on following the social standards.
It's the same in other countries, but simply with different standards (to expand on GG's remark). In Lebanon, one like me who still hasn't found his soulmate at 39 starts raising suspicions about the truth of their heterosexuality. Especially if, like me, you hate the "macho attitude".
To think I wouldn't even qualify as a metrosexual! (I much prefer to be "fashionably unkempt".) :-D

BTW, GG, stop skipping, it's WAY too "unmanly"! ;-)

My verif says things can only get "worce".

Have learned that if you think things are bad. They can always be worse.

You could find out your mother-in-law is moving in. Yes dear;-)

S.O.S.! Mayday! July day! To the lifeboats! Every man for himself! Women and children after me!

Two great white sharks, swimming in the ocean, spied a ship in distress.
"Follow me, son," the father shark said to his son shark and they swam to the ship.
"First we swim around them a few times with just the tip of our fins showing."
And they did.
"Well done, son! Now we swim around them a few times with all of our fins showing."
And they did.
"Now we eat everybody."
And they did.
When they were both gorged, the son asked, "Dad, why didn't we just eat them all at first? Why did we swim around and around them?"
His wise father replied, "Because they taste better without the sh*t inside!"
