The problem with surveys is that these can be intentionally skewed by the careful crafting of the questions being asked. Also, there's a tendency for people to tell them what they think they want to hear, rather perhaps than appear to be a respondent that's outside the norm of others.

So I'd tend to take the results of any survey with the traditional 'grain of salt'. They're too easily manipulated towards a desired outcome.

According to some OTHER surveys, it's the exact opposite: using a lot of "new communications technologies" leads people to communicating much less in the "normal" way.
