Opinions are like @$$holes

Any clod can have the facts, but having opinions is an art.
-- Charles McCabe, San Francisco Chronicle

I suspect this was meant to be humorous somehow. What I know is that it's about as wrong as can be. Go into any pub, and any clod you ask there will have the most amazing opinions on everything, but very little facts indeed.

In fact the interesting thing is that the really uninformed people often have no clue whatsoever what you are talking about, but they will have formed an instant opinion based on something they were reminded of when you spoke! (About which they also know next to nothing.)

Ah, but what about an informed opinion? That takes skill, learning, application, consideration... ah, yes, I begin to see the problem with that! ;o)

Why does the Monty Python sketch of the man paying for an arguement and just getting someone who contradicts him spring to mind?

You know, this reminds me of something... I might eventually remember what, but in any case I know what I think about all of it!
Don't trust the Government, Eolake my boy, this is what it all comes down to. Don't trust my in-laws, either, they're all @$$holes.

What's it like to be free from the asylum? For me it's been a difficult adjustment.

That's wonderful to hear Mr. Pascal. My subjects applaud you! I would but the diamond rings on my fingers hurt when I clap.
I may possibly invite you someday to my royal palace and let my harem have their way with you as an ultimate reward for your comment.

Maybe he meant that having an opinion without being an opinionated bore, is an art.

In other words, it is a whole art not being an old fart? Sounds likely...

Bart, let the tart do his part in a Wal-Mart cart and let's part.
