The Way Things Go
Have you seen the famous Honda ad with all the car parts pushing one another in a long line? It's great, and the idea was originally from a German art film named Der Lauf Der Dinge. It's amazingly half an hour, I recommend the DVD.

Damn, I'm having a hard time finding the address to this great ad (in Flash format). I know I had it somewhere!
Is this REALLY how a Honda starts? Seems very slightly unpractical, no?
I wonder where you get the information behind the assertion that, "the idea was originally from a German art film named Der Lauf Der Dinge." I propose that you take too much credit from the writers of the Honda "Cog" commercial and give Far too much credit to the creators of the film. Lookup "Rube Goldberg machine". Just because the press reported that Fischli & Weiss "threatened" action does not reveal anything akin to truth. In fact, Fischli & Weiss give credit to Honda and Goldberg -in their keywords- on their webpage http://www.frif.com/cat97/t-z/the_way_.html It appears to me that Fischli & Weiss simply leached press off of Honda!
Is this a language issue, or a logic problem that you have? Many people affirm what is "apparent" to them to be Gospel Truth. I despise and avoid these people. Some people have slight language / vocabulary problems - I empathize and try to help these folks. I await your citation; my apology would follow. -joebob
The Honda ad definitely qualifies as a Rube Goldberg machine. I once designed one of these : you press a button, and at the other end, it goes "Ding, dong!"

David Pogue has a link to the Honda ad on his blog today.

So you give me the choice between having faulty language or faulty logic... mmm, decisions, decisions... :)

Maybe I'll send you a scan one day.
