Pleasing folks

If an artist has no desire at all to please people, he loses his audience. If he has nothing but desire to please people, he loses himself.

To choose being an artist as one's livelihood has to be one of the hardest things in the world.

It is so common that an artist's most famous and bankable work is disliked and sometimes even detested by the artist because it was done to put food on the table rather than being a product of their artistic vision.

in a sense all souls are artists

we've just forgotten it

for me breaking through the world of appearance and applause is the vision. And that breakthrough costs.
