Another stack arrived

Today another stack of small parcels arrived with the same mailman, an indian guy with thick glasses and a thicker beard. This time he sauntered into the hallway, saying "you're certainly keeping me busy, aren't you? What is it, are you buying and selling, or...?" And he tried to look past me into my apartment, maybe to see if he could spot any signs of smuggling operations or whatnot! :-)

Well, I laughed and turned it around, pointing out that the big postal delays early this month pushed deliveries together.

As it turns out, apart from "volume" 4 of American Dad, it was all the same: ink for my printer. I ordered a bunch this time, and they ship it in many small parcels, I think it is to avoid import tax, since they do business from just outside UK proper. Import tax is only levied once a parcel goes above a certain value (thirty GBP including shipping, I think).

You should be all for that, since you hate all government - like all morons.

Anonymous: Please go die somewhere.

If you're in the USA - oh, DO come visit. I'll leave the door open for you.

Be advised that I live in TEXAS and will be happy to remove you from the Genepool with a number of the tools at my disposal.

Speaking of disposal - no need to arrange a funeral at all; the animals will carry off your bones.

Finally I have been flamed.

1) It's how it's spelt on the coins (in common circulation in the UK, so everyone knows what I meant).

2) I was not being pretentious, just lazy. To spell it full I would probably have prepended it with "Republic of" for clarity. Around here ROI means return on investmeent, so would not have been a good abbreviation.

3) Would it not have been more apt on calling me out on my implication that the people of The Isle of Wight are separatists? That would brand me as some sort of anti-anarchist moron too.

4) Is the term I'm looking for "pogue ma hone"? I never was that good at spelling.

Not if done within the law.

Whether it pays off, with shipping costs etc, I dunno.

Ahhh :-) One of my very favourite subtleties; the fine dividing line between tax avoidance (legal!)and tax evasion (illegal) ... an understanding of which safely benefits many financially, particularly when self-employed!

Yes, BBQ, or maybe
Grilled Anonymous Chicken might be right on target.

Probably a good choice. That or the Man (if you are male, that is. :-)

The papers say many brits are emigrating nowadays. Mainly to ~stralia and Zealand, apparently. But I wonder if some have also fled to these small Isles. Or at least moved to bank there.
