Madonna, Hard Candy and Ray of Light

I bought the DeLuxe version of Madonna, Hard Candy, on iTunes.
If you know it, what do you think? I don't think it's all that great, so far.

Perhaps I'm stuck on Ray Of Light. I feel about Ray of Light about the same way I feel about Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns: a monumental performance, which the same artist has not equalled before or since.

I will have to disagree about ray of light being her best work. it was definitely a ground breaking record in many ways but still there were few things about it that did not gel together - she was ovbiously ready for a change but still not past the Evita: "I am now a mature artist" phase. Her best works came in the 21st century with Music, American Life and Confessions on a Dance Floor and along with the world tours that supported them I think they showed Madonna as the fun and thrilling artist that we know her and will be forever remembered for. As for Hard Candy - i find it quite hard to digest, the only cute Madonna song is "she's not me" and it's gonna take far more than those breathtaking video backgrounds to make her tour as memorable as her previous 3. So get this, Madonna has herself caused a big challenge to herself. She has managed to override the rest of the lot but can she match her best moments ever again? Judging from what I saw in her last few gigs it's going to take a lot more hard work than that. She's an Icon, a Legend - it's time for her to take her music up another step like she did with Ray of Light - which i am certain will happen with the next album.

It's gotta be tough.

I'd be tempted to do something very different sometimes. Like a classical album or whatever.
