DSLR tips web site

Here's an interesting new site: DSLR Tips. It has tips for people who are new to digital cameras with exchangable lenses. And that means most of us. I've been photographing for thirty years, and following digital cameras for ten years, and I still think the dang things are complex.

I had money in Sept, and picked up the Nikon D70S and D80. I just couldn't get over the visual clutter in the eye piece. So I left both cameras in the shop.

I still prefer a plain glass screen with a manual focus aid prism in the middle and LCD exposure info around the periphery. I'm still used to simple in camera metering, and having an exposure lock button.

Frankly DSLR appear scary, why pay $1000 to start screwing up pictures, or for functions I'll never bother learning. I still want to change lenses, and so few tele-zoom cameras allow for that. Maybe I'll just upgrade my Kodak now that they allow manual focus, I can use Cokin filters and some add on lenses with that. I use fixed lamps for close up, so I can circumvent the need for a ring light.

You're quite right there. For simplicity reasons I won't dump my steel/film SLR. But at the same time I value the possibility to view my digital images on the screen straight away.
I think it's the same with the so-called "glass cockpit" (=LCD screen instead of mechanical gauges)in aeroplanes. Once you got used to them you wouldn't want to go retro again.
