Einstein, iPods, and RVs

We had a power outage here this evening, for two and a half hours. According to my neighbor it's the first one since he moved in 16 years ago, which is pretty impressive.

So, being offline and in the dark, I took my iPod and went for a walk, listening to a biography of Albert Einstein. Very interesting, though the book is as much about his theories, which do test those frontal lobes something fierce.

I just watched the Robin Williams movie RV. Very funny. The characters all used MP3 players with white ear buds, they were obviously iPods. But in the commentary, the director Barry Sonnenfeld called them "Sony MP3 players". Lo and behold, the movie was on the Sony label. :)

Anyway, we do need those ear buds.

The earbud thing is funny. There was a similar craze when Sony announced the original Walkman in 1979. Then it gradually faded. And now the earbuds are back. Only this time they are white.

Today (April 9, 2007) Apple announced that the 100 millionth iPod has been sold. From the announcement:

The iPod has also sparked an unprecedented ecosystem of over 4,000 accessories made specifically for the iPod that range from fashionable cases to speaker systems, and more than 70 percent of 2007-model US automobiles currently offer iPod connectivity.

“I take my running shoes and my iPod with me everywhere,” said Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France champion. “I listen to music when I run. Having my music with me is really motivating.”

I don't get it : what's so special about WHITE earbuds? I'd prefer mine unconspicuous.
Of course, that'd be missing the whole "fashion victim" dogma point!

My brother came visiting from the USA, naturally bringing presents with him for the family. My cousin got an iPod, one of those so tiny they have to come with a clip to stay in place. I got a digital camera, which also brings me into the multimedia age.
I'm not jealous. I find the camera much more useful for what I like to do. Call me weird. :-)

P.S.: Of course, nothing forbids me from using the camera wile wearing white earbuds in my auditives. I got a free pair with some magazine, along with a gadget mini FM-radio. I'll just take a marker and write on it "i Pool". Nobody'll be the wiser!

[Tsk! Tsk!] Young Stobblehouse, didn't your parents ever teach you any manners? Always acting up, this troubled youth.

(Don't say you heard it from me, my good Ermintrude, but rumour has it he's interested in [whisper] nude women! Several ones, too.)

[GASP!] I bet we'll be hearing from that boy again some day. Mark my words, my dear Mrs Sourspittle. I'm sure of that!

We never liked that foreign-born Einstein kid either. Always bad grades, questioning authority, thinking he knew better than his school teacher...
He'll never amount to anything good in life.
