Courbet's painting "The origin of the world", representing the intimate part of a woman's body, was deemed pornographic for a long time. I always thought that with such a name, it was undoubtedly philosophic. This IS the origin of all of us, isn't it? And viewed that way, it's not obscene, it's a sanctuary. I was an assistant to several hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) surgeries. My favorite gynecologist always had us stand up at the crucial moment. Why? "To show respect to the matrix of life appearing before us." Technically, it WAS a simple pear-shaped hollow muscle removed for good medical reason, but I always agreed with Dr M.
It's not just how it is depicted. It's also how it is viewed. To a Taliban, a woman's eyes are already porn. :-(
Pascal, that last comment, re. the physician standing up at the precise moment . . . . . thank you for sharing.
Also, the comment on the Taliban viewing a woman's eyes . . . .
Re. two nude women together in a photo . . . . . holding each other, I see beauty there (in LJ's image) not lust or porn (something to which I am not entirely above, btw.)
At the schoolground last year a little 6th grader named Tom ran up to me, and said, "Miss O., I just saw two girls swinging on the swings together, sitting on each others laps! Does that mean they're LESBIANS?" I am not associating in any ways "lesbians" with "porn", only, how sensitive most men are about women together, assuming it's sexual. It is sensual. And again, that image makes me glad to be a woman.
I have always been envious of the relaxed attitude women have to body contact. It is very therapeutical and we men are worse for being so tense about it.
---- Me, I definitely prefer my erotica with only women in it.
Signalroom, You're most welcome. :-) I did think it was meaningful.
A funny thing to note is, many women into lesbianism (occasional or exclusive) find these relationships much more satisfying precisely because with a woman it's not just about sex, and there's a lot of sensuality and sharing. Knowing "guys", I can't contradict them there. But I'm betting MY love mate will never feel the need to seek a woman lover because I act like nothing more than a breeder! "Onga, monga." -- (Captain Caveman, mankind's first hunk.)
It's weirdish: although I'm pure-juice hetero (no dirty pun intended), I feel I wouldn't have minded one bit being born a woman. I know exactly what my sexual nature is, and yet had it been otherwise I feel it wouldn't have mattered. Which is a very hazardous thing for a man to say. :-) In fact, I have the feeling I must have been a mother in a not too ancient past life. Someone said that men are dominant/harsh toward women because they're secretly jealous of their unique power to bear life. I would consider being jealous too, except that I'm too busy finding a partner that'll share this treasured experience with me. As a male by nature, I have to accept that this is the best I can expect. Scientific progress notwithstanding!
"I have always been envious of the relaxed attitude women have to body contact." Again, our manhood can be an appalling social prison. The "solitary confinement" kind. Basically, as I said once, the weak spot of men is their manhood, be it anatomically or mentally. Any strike at a man's sense of masculinity will usually see him ready to the most extreme acts or attitudes of stupidity in order to prove he's 100% testosterone, and 0% feminine/fag/sissy/weak. But MAYBE when God gave all of us men [non-functional] nipples He was sending a subtle message? Embryology also reveals that atrophic remnants of female reproductory tract are present in men. And one of our two sex chromosomes (by far the biggest of the two) is an X... When I meet a strong woman, I can't feel threatened. Just respectful. It is said that Adam's first mate before Eve, Lilith, chose to dump him because he was opposed to her being on top during you-know-what. Could stupid machism be the real original sin? According to the legend, Lilith later became the mother of demons, who are the sworn enemies of Adam and Eve's descendance (us humans). Meaningful symbols, if you ask me.
"Me, I definitely prefer my erotica with only women in it." Erotica, maybe. But be honest : you wouldn't mind participating sometimes. I mean, if we consider erotica as implying more than innocent Domai beauty. It's true, the softness of women has something unique to it. This is probably why the gentle angels are frequently portrayed as androgynous-looking, and always without any facial hair. Again, traditional trend considers that a manly guy cannot be soft. I'm so happy Anne Geddes sees it otherwise! :-)
"(Many sites apparently don't get it.)" Worse perhaps, are the sites that THINK they got it. And then they make you regret ever seeing some dopey looks! It's as if a woman had to look stoopid to be desirable. Y.U.C.K.!

That image makes me glad to be a woman. More than glad.
and grateful for men.
Signalroom,
Are you on medication for depression, because, by coincidence, I'm on alcohol for optimism.
Okay, I know it will be hard not to take that the wrong way, so please summons all your tolerance.
Peace and love.
Ah, LJ has made his comments open to non-bloggers. Now he too can enjoy the verbal carpet-bombings of Uncle Pascal. Brace yourselves!

Ooh, me too! I almost always use such images for samples on Domai. (Many sites apparently don't get it.)

I can't able to have access to Lauri's blog.
It seems to be gone.
