Getting notifications

Does anybody know if a reader somehow can sign up to get an email notification of a new post? Some of us don't care for RSS, because it doesn't have the normal layout and graphics, and no videos.)

pictures and videos you post, too.

I've seen options to be emailed when there's a new post, but not sure that's possible on Blogger. Or only for people with Blogger usernames. I'd still keep using RSS even if it was available, though.

I would try Feedburner, which seems to be very popular. http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/04/19/feedburner-will-dominate-blog-to-email/

There's also a nice Google-based solution. But while I love Google but wouldn't want to overly depend of them. I remember too well how prominent PF-blogger Millionaire Mommy Next Door lost her blog and her mailbox when her Google account got locked. Should that happen to you, having your rss and e-mail notifications list hosted elsewhere could help you keep your audience.

The Google solution is somewhere in the middle of this page (scroll down)

Please keep RSS, it's what I use to read your stuff. :-)

I think there are no notifications as default because some blogs are big, and running a big mailing list is surprisingly complex. Some people, like Lyris, charge very good money for doing it. (I pay over 100$ per month for the Domai newsletter at some 20-odd thousand members.)

When I am signed in in my blogger account and I leave a message on your blog, I have the option to ask for an e-mail follow-up of the comments on that post. It just needs an X in a box. Then I get a follow-up on that specific post.

My RSS feed of this site, when viewed in Google Reader, contain the pics and videos in the message and the videos play fine.

Man, Blogger is broken.

What do you mean by "news post"? Usenet?

Dang. Sorry, I meant "new post".

I have and RSS link in my bookmarks line of Firefox. I mouse over the Stobblehouse tab and get a list of post titles. That's enough to know if I should visit.

Frankly I'd rather pull a blog than have it pushed, then I can do it on my schedule.

I know exactly what you mean. Sage is a RSS reader extension for Firefox. Pages open directly in FF instead of some second-rate feed reader HTML renderer thingy.

Oops, just noticed that Feedburner has been bought by Google. LOL
