Let the Robot Drive

Let the Robot Drive: The Autonomous Car of the Future Is Here, Wired article.

I'm looking forward to self-driving cars. What a waste of time to stressed out over traffic for hours daily, when you could be curled up in the back with a book, some work, or a blanket and pillow.

Cars already practically park themselves, after all. Why not let them do the rest of it? Remember Minority Report? Plus in addition no more stressing over getting your license, and you wouldn't need your parents to drive you anywhere when you're too young to drive yourself.

And you're not responsible any more if there is a crash. Or?

Well, if it is to be fully automatic, I guess you can't be. Although overcoming that legal can of worms will probably be one of the biggest barriers for the technology to overcome. Many people really like to have somebody to blame when accidents happen, and a big part of that legal profession has grown fat on that.

I guess the car maker will be responsible. But if the business is good, that's just another expense to count in, and if there are few accidents, it could work out.

I think the locomotion problem is solved here (along with other problems :)

There was a Danish comedian (Dirch Passer) who in at least one film in the fifties were woken up by machinery like that.

So now I discovered that a lot of episodes of Gusztáv / Gustavus are on youtube. I think he is great. And very internationally understandable. :)

Yes, word-less-ness aids that greatly.

I didn't know him. But "La Linea" was shown on Danish TV in old days.

I re-discovered Gustav not long ago. I knew him when I was a kid, but hey, it's great adult entertainment too. :)
