I read an article recently that theorized the these mistakes in spam are deliberate. They weed out the smart from the dumb quicker and with less effort. They then know that those who respond are really ready for anything that they will throw at them.

Hmmm, I'm not sure, but that theory sounds a little shaky to me. The smarter it's made all the way, the more they'd catch, I'd guess.
