I've got a better fizzing electronic device. It's a bug zapper shaped like a tennis racket. You just have to catch the pest "on the fly" (literally!), and it's fried. Cost me about $6. Recharges overnight on any electric socket. I love how it's completely chemical-free, therefore non-toxic, and you don't need to hit hard, or even to aim well. If you make contact at all with the metallic mesh, ZAP! problem gone. Even though it does deliver a high voltage discharge, it's of very low intensity. In the unlikely event you stick a finger just where you shouldn't (not easy to do by accident), you'll just go "ouch". I've checked. Unpleasant but harmless on us big primates. "Size DOES matter." ;-)
Oh, one other thing: out of caution, I never bring it too close to electronics and especially solid-state memory drives. These things are DELICATE. Everybody knows they must be kept clear fron static electricity discharges. It was already mentioned 15 years ago on the enclosed leaflet, when you bought a PlayStation1 memory card. [120KB of capacity!!!]
