"Hormonal Disaster", digital records of a Dirty Old Man

As I've said (though oddly I can't find the post), all my time I've named my hard disks to keep them apart. And just for fun, generally I name them with the the initials HD.

Hell Dish
Hound Dog
... were my first two.

From recent years:

Hillbilly Deluxe
Heavy Duty
Home Delight
Honey Delicious
Heavy Density (my first 1TB disk)

New ones:

Happy Domicile
(Main internal one, 2TB)

Humble Device
Hysterical Damsel
(External backups)

(I don't yet have one named Hormonal Disaster, but maybe the next one.)

For your music: Hip Dude.
For your rock albums: Hello Dolly.
For photos of CLOTHED women: Hot Duds.
For all perfectly SFW content such as your parish bulletin: "Hi, Daddy!" (No nudity there, I swear! LOL)

OK, I'll stop there already. We could be at this all night!
Wouldn't want to make you... Hazardously Dizzy! :-)

You old Homo Dirtius, you.

Many years ago, my supervisor instructed me to name HDs with a single short word, all uppercase, to avoid crashes and all other forms of data loss.

I have slavishly followed this advice (although I think he may have just read Alexander King's prayer, "Save This House from Tigers" in 'Mine Enemy Grows Older').

Still, I never had an irrecoverable crash or any data loss and I can still remember many of the names, but I don't want to turn this into a pissing competition.

BRAHMS and LISZT (rhyming slang for pissed) for my company's hybrid Mac/PC (this was in the second half of the last century of the previous millennium--System 5 and Windows 3) accounts machine was a favorite.

This is just a suspicion, but for the extreme ease with which I can change the name of a hard disk (like any file), I suspect that the name I give it is an external thing, like the color of the icon.

I'll use spaces sometimes for files when I remember it never seems to have caused any problems. Generally for good order, I use all lower case, especially for things to go on the web. (Mmm, and no spaces in those. Those %20 addresses are so ugly.)

Menopause closing in, already? LOL!

"but I don't want to turn this into a pissing competition."
Wise choice. It is highly disadvised to piss on hard drives!

"Those %20 addresses are so ugly."
No pi... I mean, no shit!
Not to mention they very often cause technical problems under Windows, when you save a web page on your hard drive. If the saved files have %20 in their name instead of a space, even if the HTML code says the same, they're not read. If I want a saved page to display properly, I need to edit these files by hand. ):-P

I named my first PlayStation "Pepita", because of how it sounded. When it broke down and I bought a new one of the 9000 series, I named her Nina.

Didn't really bother to baptize my PS2, though. Doesn't matter anyway, it's not registered in the machine's SYSTEM.

We named our old 1970 family car "Herbie", like the Love Bug, because it's so valliant. We still have it, up and running! In fact, it's perhaps our most reliable machine. They made them simple and sturdy, "back in the day".
