My favorite part is in the third video when he starts talking about pizza rolls. The fact that such a deranged old man could pick out so many flaws in the movies he watches adds a lot to the humor. He's somehow less offensive than George Lucas because of that.
I thought the best part was when they showed the real footage of Lucas and his yes-men after watching the rough cut of the movie. You could tell they all knew it was shit.
I know when I saw it I couldn't stop looking at my watch.
I enjoyed Phantom Menace because I was going through what I'd call my "young and stupid" phase. It was my first Star Wars movie and I was entranced by the visuals and the world built around it. Say what I will about the quality of the movie, it's actually really good at catering to kids.
George Lucas says they're kid's films. I don't know what he was smoking-The Revenge of the Sith is a "kid flick" where a guy gets three of his limbs cut off and catches fire. That's a great image for the wee ones.
That bit aside, the original trilogy definitely has an all-ages vibe (not kiddy-there's a big difference between kiddy and all-ages IMO) whereas the new trilogy feels like it was made for kids by a kid, or in this case a man with the mental capacity of a small boy. I want to know what happened to Lucas. Was he always like this or did his skills atrophy as the years went by? I've no doubt there's a spark of brilliance in him somewhere it's just been glossed over by pretty CGI.
Say what I will about the quality of the movie, it's actually really good at catering to kids.
No it isn't. Kids aren't that stupid. That's the point of the original trilogy. Like the best kids movies, they can also appeal to adults. See the Pixar movies like Toy Story or Up. Kids movies that adults can also enjoy. Let's face it, George Lucas thinks of all the cool CGI action scenes and shit first, then tacks a story on to them. No wonder the hardcore fanboys were so pissed.
Having been a kid around the time it was released I beg to differ. The general consensus among 12 year olds was that The Phantom Menace was teh awsum, to use the hip-hoppin slang of today's generation.
