Speaking of the Kindle (flash, flash--sorry), someone told me that it's iluminated by ambient light around it. Therefore it's easy to read like the printed page. Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes, all the new ebook readers which use "epaper" screens have no back light. It looks like print on paper, albeit very grey paper, which is a pity.
