Vicar of Dibley - End Joke

Vicar of Dibley is a wonderful English TV show featuring Dawn French as one of the first female vicars in Britain. And a very lively one too. She is stationed in the tiny village of Dibley (there are many villages called that), where the people are excentric and generally not too bright, but still nice, and entertaining.

One of those, and one of the least bright ones, is Alice, who is the vicar's helper, and who is featured each time in a little end note after the credits, along with Geraldine, the vicar herself, who attempts a joke.

I have ripped three of them for you:
End Joke Transylvania
End Joke nun in bath
End Joke Octopus

I wanted one more, but my machine did not work with that disc sadly. It was: they are launching a new line of communion wafers. They are fat-free. They are called "I Can't Believe It's Not Jesus".

Those were really funny, but I don't get the one you wrote down.

Were are you in the world? You don't have the low-fat butter replacement product called "I can't believe it's not butter"? (Silly name.)

Thanks, that's the missing piece. I'm in Spain and no, we don't have that product around.

I'd be very careful about all those industrially-made fat "substitutes". Especially margarin. ("Substitute"... a synonym for Vicar. ;-)

Anything containing hydrogenated "trans" fatty acids is very bad for the weight and the cholesterol. Alas, they're everywhere.

Basically, always go for natural uncooked vegetable oil. Olive is probably the best, but anything is good, with the notable exception of coconut (probably because it grows in the tropics).
Also, not all animal fats are bad. Fish fat is good (think of cod liver oil), as long as they're fish from cold waters.
It's a matter of chemistry, basically: in cold temperatures, there is a greater need for insaturated "cis" fatty acids, which are good for the arteries. Their role is to keep the fluidity of cell membranes.
Whales and polar bears are normally obese to resist the cold, but they don't have cholesterol, because they feed from local cold water fish/plancton. Same for the inuits ("eskimos"). With their traditional diet, they have no cholesterol, and no heart disease. Thanks to natural insaturated "cis" fatty acids.
The structural difference between "cis" and "trans" fatty acids is, roughly, like the difference between spiral and straight stairs. They look similar, but end in very different places with their distinct shapes.

Hope that was summarised enough and not too boring. :-)

But my, I never suspected that communion wafers were fattening! ;-)

"I Can't Believe It's Not Jesus".

That's not even amusing because a cookie isn't actually God's body. It's only a man made cookie. Besides it's a symbol of partaking of God's body. The catholics have been in gross error of this since this religion was created.

Very well summarised, Pasc.

Of course, we have heard the basic tenets from a million other places before. But the reference to cold places, polar bears and eskimos was quite interesting.

Thanks, TTL. Success only comes by trying, and I tried to be interesting.

"I can't believe it's not aggressive", but that's a fact: for once I see a comment of total disagreement with no bellicose tone, yay! "Success at last! Science had found a substitute for direct conflict!"
This contributes to the world's enriching diversity without making it a tense place. :-)
As long as no traditional catholics feel insulted, that is!!! ;-)

That "vicar" is very cute. I'd love to be in her parish.
In a fully wholesome intention, of course. Like with Domai models, I don't need to be physically attracted to her to enjoy her beautiful face and nice eyes in a fully innocent manner.
This, naturally, would be entirely the case if we were talking about a true vicar and not an actress. It is my regret to say that I belong (by birth) to one of the currents of Christiannism that do not take women priests. My... "parish"... doesn't. Me, I wouldn't mind one bit.
Especially considering that today women are taken in armies, the place where "typically male" qualities (for fighting) are paramount. So why in Heaven's name not trust them in spiritual matters? I'd have great trust in a woman with a sincere vocation for priesthood.
So okay, I said she was cute. The truth is, it is not so much because of her physic. I mean that the personality visible on her face is fresh, loving and happy. It's important to have a religious leader that looks kinder then, say, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeyni. I always love meeting a priest in whom I see the genuine fundamental spirit of what I truly believe in. Not the Institution of the Church, but God's love. However you choose to worship Him. (Or Her. Or It. I don't care, it's just labels on the One underlying Truth anyway.)
The good news is, even here in "backwards" Lebanon, I see young priests, of the modern generation, with a fresh attitude and mentality. Things WILL change. It'll just take them a lot of time, at worst.
Speaking of Khomeyni, 75% of today's Iranians were born AFTER the overthrowing of the Shah. They're young, they want to live, and one day they'll FORCE their country out of its archaism.
