Skull

TTL points out Damien Hirst's Diamond skull. If Warhol's Marilyns provoced debate, what about this? Is it art? is it jewelry? Is is kitch? Is it provocation? Is it criminal waste? Is it beautiful? To my wonderment, I find that I really don't care. I am just amazed that Hirst financed it himself. I had no idea any artist was that rich.

I placed my order with Hirst. Problem: I needed two for my mantlepiece. Hirst said he is low on inventory and could only supply one. Bummer! I went with a moose head instead.

Aw, low end! I hope the moose head is at least gold plated?

I think about how many charity organizations the money could have went to, like habitat for humanity, cancer research, education, spreading the gospel of Christ..........he tries to glorify death with his piece but instead creates bling bling.
A fool and his money soon parts.

It still can, if he sells it.
Actually, this is more than just dumb bling. It's Aztec inspiration, they had a lot of art related to the macabre, death and skulls, sometimes in precious materials like massive gold and gems.
It's a different view, a different culture. I've seen far worse.

I bet someone with as much money as Damien Hirst must probably be giving interesting amounts to charity anyway. The American system encourages it.
And George Walker Bush seriously reduced the State competition in that field...

TTL,
You could try a mousse head? (Hmm, cocolate mousse!...)
Or a foam reproduction of your own, in life size. Should take up less space than a moose head. Normally.
But let's not get a head of ourselves. And two heads ARE better than one, anyway.

Moo!

Does it takes much skill to make such skull?

(More than my puns at least, I bet!)

Heh heh ... if this is not an elaborate prank then I don't know what is.

"Last month, artist Damien Hirst unveiled the most expensive contemporary artwork ever made, a skull bedazzled with more than 8,000 fine diamonds. It's expected to sell for as much as $100 million. In response to the skull's exhibition at London's White Cube Gallery in Mason's Yard, an artist named Sarah created a replica covered with 6,522 Swarovski crystals and dumped it outside the gallery in the middle of the night on top of a pile of trash."
