What's Luck Got To Do With It?

Following up on "luck"...
I am sure you know people who are always unlucky. Or seem to be.
I had a colleague once who had a reputation for always winning. And sure enough, she did. At one company party there were four prizes to be won by lottery amongst 400 employees. She won two of them!

I think being unlucky is the condition of your higher mind telling you something.
And being lucky is being in alignment with your higher mind.

I think we each have a human body/mind/beingness which is a tiny tiny part of a huge Higher Mind which goes beyond time and space.
Beyond that is a higher mind for all living things.
And beyond that is God or infinity.

And I think our goal in life is to harmonize all those.

The main barrier to this is that our Human Mind is jealous and proud, and hates to share control and credit with the higher minds. We need to learn to let go of that.

My regularly-followed science monthly mag just came in, with this cover article :

"The world has greatly changed, we haven't. We aren't adapted to today's world, because man still acts with a prehistoric mind."

So true. For our own survival, we need our deep mentality to finally evolve. (Yeah, I know, "go tell it to God's/Allah/s soldiers".)

We'll need intellingence, not just lots of luck, to pull this off. But really, we have no choice. Being static is being dead.

mankind does still remain the same throughout the centuries......greed, tears, war, famine, lust, hunger, thirst, arrogance, some contentment, vague happiness, excitement on a limited scale.
but luck happens sometimes and we stumble upon it at various times.

Being static is being dead.

like walking dead men.

it's a very cold world isn't it?
winter brings out the depression in me. the calender seems glued to frost and frigid tempetures without a glimmer of spring at the moment.
maybe i'll get lucky and fall asleep and dream that it's summer again and all is well with the world? i can only hope.

I am confused with the immensity of the cruelty that does exist in the human heart. Survival and intellingence are needed with much more than LUCK I believe.
Does real luck even exist? Possibly. Yes, I think it does to a certain degree.
It was by pure luck i found Domai and Eolake Stobblehouse. He is a very lucky man. To be able to stay in his cozy apartment and make a living selling beautiful nude photographs of women is great.
I confess envy. But also admire him as well.

W.S., I do admit sometimes I envy myself. And then I get very confused.

Are you serious about the STATEMENT OF CONFIDENTIALITY? It's the first time I've seen one on a blog comment.

Eolake,
Why do you get confused sir? I don't understand? You are very successful and Domai is widely known and respected through-out the world.
As far as the confidentiality statement yes sir. Once I had several copyrighted song lyrics I wrote and ideas which are under patent and a blogger stole them. Fortunetly they were caught and brought to justice.
Sorry, I did not mean any harm by it sir. I hope you understand? Thank you Eolake.

I meant I get confused, because how can one envy oneself? It was a joke. :)

I see about copyright, only:
1: the culprits were stopped even though you did not have that confidentiality thing back then, yes?
2: Most of your posts surely do not contain lyrics or inventions?

Nildar,
Here in Lebanon, we currently have power about 8 hours a day. Some regions only have 4 hours. And when the weather is bad like yesterday, it keeps coming and going, like a slow christmas tree.
The economy is in shambles, the politics would make one happy to live in George W. Bush's USA, and a new civil war is actually under careful consideration.
Also, I haven't had a single date, decent or otherwise, in months. And I think I'm coming down with an umpteenth angina.

But do you hear me glooming about how cold this world is? Nope. I remain optimistic, at the very least because skulking won't help one bit. It's just a CHOICE. I have some juice now, so I'm back to blogging here where several people whose face I've never seen are happy to read me, or simply entertained.

Bottom line : it's in your perception, first of all. There shall always be something dark to focus on. But also some golden light. Don't be so pessimistic, my friend, just seek in another direction, it's right there. You just have to want it.

I've mentioned often enough that when things feel really hopeless in this country, we start joking about it all. It'a a reflex. And oh boy, does it feel good to laugh instead of crying! Try it. A positive outlook is the first step in overcoming any problem.

Wayward son,
It's funny, I too found DOMAI by pure chance. :-)

Hi Pascal,
I will pray for your situation that things get better for you. I mean this. I'm always happy to read your words of encouragement and hope.
I too go through the mill at times but I give thanks for the blessings I have in my life :)
I'm sure Nildar was just having a bad day my friend. But yes, I agree on trying to focus on the brighter side of things.
If I had the power I would help both Israel and Lebanon find contentment someway? And try to find a way to bring harmony to Iraq and Iran without bloodshed. Honest.
I believe that war just heightens the problems. In war (some I believe) there are no winners. I feel bad that war even exists.
Thank you for letting me know that eolake lifted the moderation and for the article you sent me.
Trust me, I enjoy our friendship and I honestly admire Eolake as well. He's a fine man who is very fair and is a great photographer.
I missed talking with you Pascal. We don't always see eye to eye on things but you are still my friend.
You are "quite" the "man" to be able to smile and keep your spirit up during these horrible moments you go through. I mean this.
If more people had your outlook I think we'd have a peaceful world my friend.
Please know that I care. Be safe.
And keep your enduring smile and harmony........it's what makes me glad to read your words :)

"I'm sure Nildar was just having a bad day"

Hey, I sure hope so. :-)
I certainly wasn't trying to complain about my life. After 32 years of this situation, a true Lebanese is used to it like a fish is used to being wet. It's become a reflex, almost same as breathing, to put the small hassles in perspective and appreciate the blessings we have. So I never miss a chance to share this "exotic recipe" for serenity. :-)
It's also very comforting to have some regular supportive friendly voices. Consider it a symbiosis : mutual benefit.

"If I had the power I would help both Israel and Lebanon find contentment someway? And try to find a way to bring harmony to Iraq and Iran without bloodshed."
"Against the stupidity of Man, the gods themselves contend in vain." So don't feel too bad that you're not very powerful, being only human! And yet, against human stupidity, the only efficient force is human wisdom.

Even God cannot help those who won't help themselves. I know, "He's all-powerful" and stuff. But He made the rules of this Universe, and chose to follow them too (otherwise His own rules would be pointless). One of these rules is that we're always free of our own choices, no matter how stupid they might be. Or, to put it in popular wisdon phrasing, "a fool and his money are soon parted". No matter how often God makes him rich again. The same goes for peace.

"I feel bad that war even exists."
Otherwise put : you feel bad that men are free to be limitlessly stupid.
And yet, if you've seen Schindler's List, you know that the brightest light shines in the darkest night. War is, essentially, a situation of anarchy, where the established rules of human Society cease being enforced and anything becomes possible. War is an occasion for everyone to show their true selves. Some ordinary-looking folks will reveal themselves to be ignoble monsters, like the collaborators of the Gestapo. Others, just as ordinary-looking, will display, or discover in themselves, a nobility and heroism that otherwise might forever have remained undisclosed.
War? It's the opportunity to sin or do good with a feeling of absolute freedom toward human laws. It's altogether horrible and fascinating, like a volcanic eruption contemplated from the border of the crater. You have practically no power over it. But you have just as much power of decision over yourself. Run like the wind? Or get delayed to help that woman whom you just saw fall near you? Or seize the opportunity to trip your rival in the lava and get rid of him for good?
This freedom over our life, our choices, does not give us as much power as God. But when you truly understand it, it gives you quite enough immense power over your destiny.
You, Terry, can do something against war. You can vote, you can militate, you can demonstrate in what is considered today a very free country. You can testify around you that you know somebody "over there" who's not at all like the clichés. You have the power. Why do dictatorships put such huge efforts in lying to their people? Because knowledge is power, and because the people are potentially very powerful. If they knew the truth, it would take a huge army just to hold them back... maybe! Provided the army doesn't turn against tyrants too. Like in Indonesia when Marcos fell.

"If more people had your outlook I think we'd have a peaceful world my friend."
Even if it might jeopardize my legendary modesty, I must confess I've always felt that way. ;-)
As I once read somewhere, the flow of a river is very hard to divert, but it only takes one drop of dye to change its whole color. "Never say dye"? Well, I'll take the chance! :-)
And I know some substances that can really color a river with a single drop. My father is a hydrology engineer...

As for keeping my smile, you might as well tell a seagull to keep flying. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
And :-)

Actually Pascal, I have voted agaisn't Bush and his war machine and have signed petitions agaisn't his illegal aggression. Honest. I want it to stop.
I am a member of Moveon.org. I am proud to say. We do as much as possible to stop Bush and his bloodthirsty appetite. Please know this.
I understand that not all people (arabs and jewish, asian and others) are not all terrorists. What Bush did to Iraq was illegal and shameful. He had no right enforcing democracy upon a nation who never asked for it.
Granted, Saddam was evil, but He should have been removed by his own people not our soldiers. We simple did not have that right to do what we did. Iraq wasn't responsible for our 9/11, Bin Laden was.
And yes, I'm glad you feel the same way about our friendship.
